PUD's new pretty, pretty pot

Now it's PUD's turn to be proud and stand tall... It was put into its new pot this morning. It hasn't started raining yet so I took full advantage. Again, I chose it because it makes the colors of the hosta really stand out!

They are great pots. 'Weather Resistant' and well draining and slug resistant. So they are perfect for hostas. They are a little on the expensive side which is why I think they make them pretty!

Going to Hilltop Farms next week to pick up a June hopefully! I have confirmation that they have them! I will probably get 2. I don't know which other one I'll get but whatever catches my eye and looks good in contrast with June.

Brandy you might take a look at 'Halcyon' to accompany your new 'June'. Halcyon is an old standard, lovely blue colour, parent of June, so they look nice together.

Pls. excuse me, I forgot to say Hi Olivia, beautiful blooms you've got there, great shot, vibrant color. I do see what you mean about the same kind of speckle on the leaves, not sure about the shape of my leaves, I thought they were oblong, hum. I'm not familiar w/ what GL means about 'bedding' begonias. Maybe it's differences in what we call them, but the only ones I know that consistently get that leaf shape were referred to as the caning Begonias. Hey Toni, You think the trunk (stem) is thick, really? May I pls. ask what's significant abt that? It didn't occur to me that was unusual.

You'll be fine, and so will your plants. It's a courtesy to pot up any plants that are particularly sensitive to disturbance, but you're with a bunch of gardeners, not a bunch of newbies 'buying pretty' at the garden center. As long as the plant is fairly certain to survive, everyone will take things as they can get them, and understand if they look a little scruffy. You'd have to work to out-scruff me anyway - my first time I took New England asters (cut back by half the day before, so they were mostly green sticks), hacked into clumps, and dumped in a bag as is. I wrapped them as people claimed them, and put them in separate plastic bags for take-home! The compromise position, by the way, is to wrap the roots tidily in newspaper, soak the paper, then put in plastic bag (with a tag, please!). It's faster than potting, and gives better plant survival than pure 'dig and chuck'. It also lets you keep more of your soil, and (somewhat) reduces the risk of sending weeds and bugs to a new home. Now that I re-read your post, sounds like that might be what you do anyway??? Have fun - I'll meet you eventually, but right now am too busy with class and very local gardens to either pot or drive.

Thank you Z. :-) You are correct about the greenhouse, I have been thinking about the next one I want to build. The problem is, I want to move also. So, I have to either move first, or build twice. Dont want to do that. I have a cool idea that I want to try. I am going to be doing some experimentation this winter and see what happens. Fun Fun Fun Andy...I will post more pictures when my IP fixes the ftp. Sometime today the email crashed and it most be tied into the ftp area. That might also be why some people dont see pictures. It will be fixed soon. The top picture is the Spindle palm, not the bottle palm. I have some small bottle palms that I received today. They are a nice size. I now have my Hyophorbe collection complete.

Thanks everyone, I went for it. I was wrong in that there are no million bells, just different complementing colors of petunias. Paul, you were right about the roots not intertwining yet...at least one of them actually still had the peat pot pretty much still in tact and not very well placed and the whole arrangement kind of flabbed out a bit although the larger pot dirt stayed together. I'll see how they take. Ken, yep, it's not cost effective but as usual, I bought too many plants with no real plan of what to do with them so this is ok with me!

Thank you! It looks happy in it's new pretty pot... It doesn't feel left out any longer! I switched and repotted my Mama Mia today. Mostly because my Japanese Boxwood had outgrown it's planter (which matches most of my other hostas.) I cleaned it out good with Dawn and water. And I found a couple of catepillars had been snacking on my Mama Mia so I got rid of them!

I have my eyes on Stained Glass, one of the Tiaras (whichever one catches my fancy) and June. But whp knows what I'll bring home? It's not really the name that strikes me, it's what it looks like and if it looks different from the others. I'll post pictures for sure and let everyone see them whatever I choose. But I'll look for Halcyon, too!

My repotted Mama Mia which looks like it might be snacked on next by my Albomarginata!! LOL!!!

Halcyon has looks that just don't get old.

I have two plants, When I was starting I didn't know about splitting plants can slow them down.. well one half of the split has been covering the ground around the size of a pizza pan.. it looks nice though, all season.

The other has been stuck on producing about 3-6 leaves, disappointing. however this year the one eye (so far) is very large, and it has one leaf that is far larger than the bigger plants leaves.

As for Stained Glass, It doesn't start out as fancy as it gets, it appears very fine and easily damaged.. But it never fails to pour on the looks ... Mine always gets to a point where I am pausing when I walk by it. Even though mine is not that old yet ...
two years ago it had one leaf on the plant that was the best in the whole yard. It was just perfect.

I will definitely look at Halcyon!

My point was that just because I have my eye on it doesn't mean I am going to get it. It depends on how healthy and striking the plants are in their selection. Like the other day, I had a chance to get an actual Fire and Ice but passed because it had been in full sun for who knows how long and it had bugs all over it.

All of mine have been perfectly healthy and beautiful except for the Mama Mia... It was given to me in poor condition. She's a beauty now but I didn't like showing her off last year at all.

So I don't commit to anything until I see it and if it strikes my fancy... I'll buy it! It does make me a little nervous... Who knows how many I'll come back with!!!???

A person I know recommended Hosta 'Striptease'... I looked it up, it looks very cool and unusual. Does anyone know if this is a good hosta? Looks like it would go well with my current hostas and if I get 'June', too. Opinions on it? Slow growth doesn't bother me... But tell me if it looks stunning as it does in full grown pics as a youngling....

If you like the looks of Striptease, check out Kiwi Full Monty. It's basically the blue version of Striptease and I like it better. And I think your collection needs a blue somewhere in there besides your BME. A really nice medium sized blue that I have is Blueberry Muffin, it has purple leaf petioles and keeps its blue color for a long time. It would look great in a pot to show off those petioles, if you can find it.

I am currently asking if they have all these even. I live in Missouri and a lot of the selections are limited. They said no on Halcyon. They said they have a few that look like it. As well as Striptease, no on her, too. But some that resemble her. I am just going to go there and what strikes my fancy and appeals to me... Who knows? But thanks and I will keep certain looks in mind.
