Janice, in the Hosta Handbook, Golden Sunburst is not recommended due to burning problems. Mark goes on to say "if you are required by law to grow this plant, place it in a fairly protected site and avoid any exposure to direct sunlight in spring," .. . "the slow growth rate makes it a long process to maturity."

and if it won't fade completely away, perhaps it will serve my purposes!

Beth did warn me to not let it get sun, as it would burn so I was "informed"! :o)

You must not read every post,Janice. I have a Golden Sunburst,that actually sported from a regular Frances Williams. It's still small,because I moved it from where it used to grow. Also,the freeze affected it. It is doing well,despite the setbacks,and yes it will get a litle toasty,as the margins of FW do. It seems to be in a good spot now,so we'll see this year. Hope yours is larger than mine,but please plant it in a shady spot! Phil

I have a FW that sported an all yellow eye. I didn;t know the name of it until just now (or at least the name of the original all yellow eye from FW).

Anyway, yes, mine get damaged almost every spring on the first leaf of each eye despite my efforts to cover it after it starts poking up. It is sort of like growing white asparagus - it keeps growing and I keep covering until frost is passed.

I just remove the ugly leaves and let it go. It is kind of cool looking

So, I should consider "deep" shade for this one and not even a little morning sun for say an hour??
It would be very early sun, very low on the horizon!!

I've had it since 2003. It is still only two eyes, but still there. Its under a crabapple tree so it sees very little sun.

Janice,mine grows in morning sun,and,so far,it doesn't look too bad. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow,but be advised,it isn't too big yet. It is putting on more leaves than last year,so that's an improvement. I had to move it,because it wasn't growing too well,because it had a big tree root right under it. You have to understand,this plant was a bare-root hosta from a bag of ten Frances Williams,I planted back in 2003! They are all still alive,and some are doing a lot better than others. This was back before I didn't know 'A' about hostas! Phil

Janet, Your plant is at least the size of the one in the picture. You should get it today. Not too much sun or it can toast. All of mine still look pretty good, but it is a sport of Francis Williams. And I got mine originally because I want as many varieties as I can get. Thanks for telling me where to look to find you. Beth

in such an open forum! Everything about your hosta has been reported as very good and we're always glad
to see new posters come on board, because we have so much fun and get so much information from one
anothers' "experience"!
