Theoreticaly, you could be right. However, some viruses may induce mutations. Phyllody can be viral or other phytoplasmic infection. Most mutations are degenerative. Not all, but most. Climbing mutations often are degenerative in bloom production compared to their original bush forms. Frequently, they are once flowering and require selection to sort out those which repeat. Cl. Iceberg is an excellent example. When first released, there were several strains of the climbing form, many of which didn't repeat and some which didn't flower much at all. any/all of the asian spring flowering roses with special mention for 'our' rose, the locally bred Cantabridgiensis. my small hulthemia collection, including the stellar Eyes for You several Lens hybrid musks - Pleine de Grace (although enormous), Sibelius, Matchball and Jacqueline Humery) Helenae, Splendens, moyesii, Scharlachglut, Madame Gregoire Staechelin - a mix of once flowering lovelies. Hebe's Lip my few pimpinellas - Double White, Marbled Pink, Red Nelly, Falkland and Dunwich rose a couple of multiflora ramblers - Goldfinch, Aglaia Workhorses - Golden Wings, Moonlight, Blue for You, Darlows. Iceberg. Tolstoi (my only setigera). Alba semi-plena, Nevada and (surprisingly) Aimee Vibert.

Good luck with identifying a green out of the blue. If nothing else, all the NOIDS together can make a nice generic hosta bed. I held off getting any of the Striptease line, but succumbed to the charms of Gypsy Rose. So I don't have any experience to speak of with the strippers. What I'm looking for is a newer one called Snake Eyes. Absolutely gorgeous, if I get the real thing. :)

Right now, sticking to fuss free roses actually in bloom or about to (re)bloom, *Anna Olivier - perhaps the most reliable ebullient rebloom in the yard - tied for reliable rebloom with *Purpurea (winecup) - flowers are very frequent if also very fleeting; but oh the lovely glaucus foliage! *Savannah and *Plum perfect - both get better every year; I like it that they are foliated all the way to the ground. Savannah's strong grapefruit scent is a bonus; blooms last a long time on the bush before dropping cleanly. *Perle d'Or - used to just tolerate her because of the tendency to chlorotic leaves but dumped lots of gypsum and milorganite on her last year; she's been bettter since - spring flush had bigger flowers and smelled very good this year -- still fairly fuss free There are others I might have mentioned a month ago or a month from now. (maggie for best spring flush; softee for all round performance; star of the republic for most beautiful flower and most haunting scent; yellow mutabilis for that je ne sais quoi -- but this is good for now )
