This is the weekend we have open garden all weekend. We do have a yard plant sale, but lots of folks come just to walk around and see our gardens. We have about 800 cultivars on display... only a dozen or so showing frost damage...

What a wonder-full evening! My thanks to you both for sharing your selves and your gardens so freely! What a joy to stroll through your gardens- To see MONSTERS and wee ones all so beautifully grown! To hear the stories of how some hosta came to reside in the gardens, and how some had departed, as well as several other stories shared, all told with your welcoming smiles. I wish that more folks here in the forum could have shared this evenings tour. It was well worth the trip even in the oh so VERY humid heat! 97 actual temp- but due to the (EXCESSIVE) humidity, the heat index says it feels like 110-116! And I bet some of you thought it didn't get hot in Minni-snow-da! Sheila, Jim, my thanks again to you both- Julie P.S. Melissa's garden is well worth the trip too! Amazing what she has accomplished in a few short MN garden seasons! Her gardens look better than many 10+ year old gardens, mine included! You are in for a treat next week!

Ordello, my heart goes out to your DH and his friends, my prayers too and to all of you from Minn. I wanted to let you know a lot of us are thinking of you. Also i was so impressed with the kindness and heroism of everyone. Your mayor was right out there doing what he could as well as your police chief, the tears flowed for a very caring person when he broke down. He had to be a tough person to be a police chief,yet he cared so much. Your govenor was like no govenor i've ever seen,he also was out there in the middle of everything, not sitting in an office saying i'll fly over in a helicopter tomorrow. Evergreen ferns in Twin Cities area

That's interesting as up here my fern experience has been poor at best. My Christmas fern experience has been like most. The fronds get broken or flattened to the ground by the snow. Some stay green, some don't. It doesn't grow very aggressively in spring either. Moist soil, clay content, but I have tried to add peat moss, compost, etc. The fronds of my Japanese painted fern die back to the ground and re-emerge in spring. ItÂs a nice looking fern, but tiny. My hartÂs tongue fern is pretty well the same, nice when itÂs up, but puny. I guess I just look at too many catalogue pictures. I also tried the cinnamon fern which basically survived, just survived, a few years before dying. Then on the other side of the spectrum we have some native fern. Jim, I am very interested in touring your gardens and perhaps taking home a souvenir (or two or ten) with me. But I'm not sure how to contact you since your e-mail isn't listed on your home page. Did you, by chance, advertise on craigslist with location of Plymouth/Wayzata?
