Mighty Mouse was new for me last year, with one eye. This year it has two.

BME is about four years old and probably had a few eyes when I bought it. This year it has about 14 eyes, which seems like a noticeable leap from last year. So it hasn't grown real fast for me. This is the first year it really catches my eye in the garden- the leaves even seem a bit bigger. I've seen pics of some much larger ones than mine, so I imagine mine has a ways to go.

I would pot up mighty mouse as mine was a very slow grower. To me, Blue mouse ears had adequate vigor to grow in the ground.

I tried potting mine two years ago and the squirrels had a field day! They don't mess with any hosta in the ground but think a plant in a pot means pull it up, dig in the dirt, toss it around and ruin it!

My BME grew very quickly. So far Mighty mouse is strong and healthy but hasn't grown more than a second eye in three years.

Thanks guys! I'm relieved to hear that BME grows faster than I thought and a bit dismayed that Mighty grows so slow. These two little guys were expensive and are so tiny. We are planning on moving from UT to Florida in two years and if these guys grow that slow I might just take them with me as I've really been wanting these two for a long time and I would hate to start from scratch.

I plan on leaving them in the ground even though we do not have any squirrels in our yard. Only problem we have are racoons and they don't seem to bother our plants (just our ducks). Is there a particular reason why you would need to pot them up? I don't mind having it in the ground due to it's size as I can just plant some annuals around it. They are both planted in front of my hydrangeas and they tend to steal the show anyways.
