OT: A Suprise In The Garden

Hi everyone,

After mom and I came back from the P.O. this morning (mailing out cuttings), look at what we found this morning on one of her old bird feeders:

I was wondering where some of these guys had gone. There is still one Monarch caterpillar on my tropical milkweed. I may have to bring him inside, but we'll wait and see!

I wanted to add something on-topic: When I was taking cuttings this morning, I found two more peduncles on my fungii and it looks as if I'm going to have blooms soon!

Fantastic, Brad!

I think it was Quinn who was complaining about fungii not rooting very well for her, and I have just been rooting one myself. While not the w o r s t, I still think this one does get fairly stressed, or at least mine did, because of the broad relatively thin leaves. Not to mention the slow rooting this time of year. Luckily it's around the bend now. :)

I hope you have blooms to show us soon!

Thank you, GG! I brought it inside and it's hanging in my bedroom window. I hope it makes it!

I think when I got the fungii cuttings last year, it took a little while for them to root, but once they did, they did fine. Good luck with yours!

Karyn thanks I hope I will have time to go check the passi forum out...one of these days. IF it ever cools down and I do not have to water so much that it just makes me wanna take a nap...again right now lol You are also right about the vine growing back..I not only saw new growth...I also saw this...when I took a REAL CLOSE look: From Pictures for GW friends Boy the process from egg to butterfly goes really fast!! Prince Albert that is wonderful. I am still hoping that the neighbor will get a tall fence SOON so the deer do not come into her yard and I could use the chain link fence for VINES...Man I could have so many!! Kristy you know when you described the colors of the bird, I thought too that it must be someones bird. Pam you are really GREAT!!! I just got to say, first we have Karyn who rarely misses a name for a plant. You on the other hand always come up with the names for gritters. THANKS both of you. Of Course Shawn is the link guy who sends you shopping for Brugs and more lol and on and on. So all newbies...did you listen? Deb thanks you are sweet. The calyx is indeed purple....hurray. I just never discussed Dats. Thought I wait for the suprises. But considering how late it is in the season. I know I should be more patient. wow that would be so nice. Got 5 or 6 of those. So surely they will produce seeds. I cross my fingers. Cause I love how they grow and you can put them anywhere and they do not overtake your yard like the other little purple one lo. Lucy

That's cool Brad and hopefully you can watch the butterfly emerge. Butterfly gardening is so rewarding.

This is my first year butterfly gardening (I winter sowed for the first time last year as well and all I can say is that it really works!!!) and I am thrilled with the results! I cannot wait to see what happens next year!

I'll keep you updated on how my Monarch is doing! I'll post pictures when the eclose happens!
