Keep them as-is-indoors (bright light window) for now; and then plant them later come spring as you wish. Remember that(specially young 1-4 year old figs) do need the most for winter cold protection.

Definitely spend time on the Container Gardening forum and the Balcony Gardening forum---both have loads of good information. You might begin by simply reading through threads that sound interesting and also plugging in search words on specific topics/plants/techniques that you want to know more about.....I'm sure posters on those forums can also offer favorite book titles and other websites, depending upon how much you want to dive in. Also, depending upon what your living circumstances are, you might think about forcing bulbs in pots over the winter. You need to be able to tuck the pots somewhere where they'll stay chilled and dark for three or four months---an unheated garage, for example. I did it last year for the first time and had such good results and such fun that I'm doing about 5 times as many pots this winter. It's a terrific way to extend the gardening season a little and try different kinds of bulbs without taking up garden space. Waving at Leslie - I'm here! I was playing a game "Jump into Lines" and all of a sudden the graphics and hyperlink disappeared and I couldn't figure what was going on. I pressed my Favourite Key to get onto THS at it worked but the page looked different - no graphics at the top of the page - just words. I quickly logged on while I had the chance and came to the KT. The graphics came back and I am still here able to post. Somebody fixed something somewhere and it is about time! LOL I am trying to catch up just in case it all disappears again.
