roundup killed about 30% of my veggies
Comments (13)Don't feel too bad. It's a mistake that many people make. A client called the extension office one day asking about some shrubs that were dying. She had used the same sprayer she had previously used for glyphosate (Roundup) to spray them with an insecticide. She had rinsed the sprayer between chemicals but there was enough residue left to kill some of her shrubs. Just because these chemicals are readily available in the garden center of just about any store, doesn't mean they are safe. The key is to read and follow the label directions EXACTLY! Temperatures too high, the slightest breeze, brushing against freshly sprayed weeds and then your veggies or flowers... any of these things can cause disaster to your plants. Or walk through a still damp from spraying area and then onto the lawn. You will leave "dead shoe prints" to tell the tale of your learning experience. Good luck with those plants that are still alive. Yes, give them plenty of TLC and some may survive but don't be too amazed if they all die. Learning can be a painful experience. Comments (17)There is holes between the pickets and he uses one of those one-gallon sprayers. My mom has one and they can spray a wide stream. He had to have sprayed over the fence for them to die. I caught him a couple days before he sprayed looking over the fence. He climbed his chain link fence and was looking in my yard. I thought it was kinda weird, but he does weird stuff anyway. I think he went spraying happy. Some of my flowers were over the fence a little bit, so he probably did not like that, because he leaves me little notes, if my shrubs goes over the boundary line. Jerry I live in a town of about 22,000 in a subdivision. Unfortunately, this situation caused tension between neighbors. I won't be planting anything close to the fence in the future, so this won't happen again. Thanks for all you guys listening. Things like this is very fustrating....See MoreEvil Neighbors Killing Plants w/ Roundup
Comments (3)Surveillance cams!! I would even buy cheap shoes, plants, etc (things they have damaged in the past,) for them to potential damage again. Then provide a copy to the condo board/management. You can also provide a copy to the police (unless you want to wait for the boards reaction.) Ask for a supervisor/chief if the police officer doesn't help. If, for some reason, nothing is done even with video evidence, I would go to the local TV news stations....See MoreKill weeds without Roundup
Comments (3)There is a reason products like RoundUp/glyphosate are so popular....they are effective. And exactly how toxic they may be compared to other products is up for some debate. Burn Out is just horticultural strength vinegar. And it comes with its own set of cautions. It is extremely caustic - you need to wear protectve clothing and goggles when spraying - and can alter soil pH rather dramatically (although temporarily) at least on the soil surface. And it is not translocated into the root system so perennial weeds will grow back. And I am not familiar with Pulverize so did some research. Its active ingredient is ammoniated salts of fatty acids, which is pretty close to the active ingredient in insecticidal soap. And you might want to read up on maleic hydrazide, which does not sound like a very benign addition to this product. But that is what supposedly gives this product its systemic effect....See Morepoaky1
