Maybe better pruning a little late than too soon. I pruned mine back too early when we were having weather in the 70's back in March and almost killed them. The warm weather went on for so long that I thought it was going to stay that way (it didn't). Anyway, I agree with horster and I'd say to prune yours and have blooms a little bit later than usual, but they will bloom. Cathy

I Know this thread is a bit old but i'd like to share my technique for taking box cuttings: When pruning the box bushes i keep every single bit that i cut off in a bucket of cold water until i have finished pruning (a few hours only of course) then i prep a seed tray to about 1 1/2 inches deep with normal soil, pick all the nice healthy bits out of the bucket + sow them as close together as possible for maximum numbers. I do this in may/june/july and then dont touch them apart from watering until the following spring when i repot them into individual pots, this way i get maybe 95% success rates. P.s. another tip, the cuttings that turn orange-ish and dont put on any top growth for a while seem to produce the biggest rootballs. Regards Rowan

At this point in November, I would prefer to wait to plant Boxwood until spring. But, if you already have your boxwood purchased or need to plant this fall still, I would get them in the ground ASAP. The ground is freezing as we speak. They won't survive outdoors in a pot or B&B above ground. Just make sure they are well protected from winter burn and exposure. A sunny south face in the winter is harmful for broadleaf evergreens during the winter as the combination of sun, winter wind blasts and freeze/thaw will desiccate the leaves and stems. Boxwoods are best planted in protected spot, like an east face or a spot that is protected from the west and is shady in the afternoon. Also be careful with watering this late in the season, as it can quickly become ice and will damage roots. Use little or no water at all this time of year, there is plenty of moisture in the ground already. Also, what water the boxwood may take up may cause more freezing problems in the plant tissues. if you have more than on plant .... just shear one of them .. and see what happens ... experimenting is fun ... and most often.. you will remember the lesson learned next year.. whatever it might be ... of course.. being lavender ... i would probably dry and harvest the fragrant parts cut off .. else.. what is the point of growing it ... put a little sachet in your step ... see what i did there.. lol .. ken
