If this is for people new to daylilies, I would definitely go with Gilberthwild.com. They have tons of nice but older varieties at very affordable prices and a cheap flat shipping rate.

Marietta Gardens and Oakes are both good too.

Since they're in Washington, how about Maryott's in California. They're a top notch nursery, offer gift certificates and Bill is very, very helpful when contacted either by email or phone. Check out they're site at the link below. The gift certificate info is on the opening page. Their site also contains lots of info on growing dl's.

Well, at the risk of repeating myself, I would suggest a membership to the AHS. They'll receive the Daylily Journal as well as voucher worth $25-50 that can be redeemed from a large number of very reputable growers. For only $10 above membership, you could also order them The Illustrated Guide to Daylilies, an AHS publication that would be of great benefit to a newbie.

If it hasn't fallen off the page, I started a thread about the AHS vouchers.

I recommend Maryott's without any reservations!

I am still new to buying dl's online, started back in July of this year, I had pruchased from 5 companies one being on ebay then the other from web sites.
Having purchased around 50 dl's online these two are my choice of sellers.

The very best web site was Maryott's hand down.
Then ebay seller Blueridgebuttons for dl's Maryott's didn't carry both of these sellers sent huge healthy fans.

OK, I went with Maryott's. It was definitely the best website for newbies AND I could order gift certificates in ANY amount that I wanted. Marilyn was such a sweetie on the phone too.

Of the others, Oakes website was the next easiest to navigate but they limit gift certificates to $25, $50, $100

Marietta's website was difficult to get started on and easy to get lost in the wrong place. Their front page is poorly designed and newbies, who won't know what "2007 introductions" means, could be scared off by the first page of $100+ plants they stumble into.

Gilberthwild.com must be on vacation this time of year and so is their website. I could not even see what DL they sell. Their page does say to check back after Dec 15 for next year's catalog.

gonegardening, I want to see if they will get hooked by browsing through the eyecandy on a good website first. If they rave about how beautiful DL are after this first exposure then next year the AHS membership could be a perfect gift.
