I have not, but I know of at least 2 that came from seed that I sold. I can't self promote, so I can't tell you who I am there, and I sell most of them through my e-bay store now anyway.

I've got 2 that I'm considering registering, but I'm not sure if I'll ever introduce them. That entails A LOT of work. I can't tell you who I got the seed from, as I don't keep track of who I buy crosses from. I mostly buy from just a handful of sellers anyway. I just give seeds a once over upon arrival and then put them in the bin with my own keepers stash. I've always figured that what happens after that is my responsibility, and not the person who sold me the seed.

Bambi too - that's so exciting! Do you know which intro's they are? Anyway, we have a threat going on the Forum for "Who sells seeds on the LA" so feel free to tell us - I did! It's all about sharing info and friendships here!!

I'm not exactly sure why the seller matters. There are some sellers who make long crosses and then sell batch after batch on the LA. Using good parents, it's very likely to get some intros from those...just by sheer numbers. However, as opnjmprs says up there...the real work comes from the actual germinating, growing, fertilizing, etc.

Some of it is just plain luck. Some of it is because people do some research into which daylilies might be good parents. And further, some make good bridge plants which lead to something else.

Some hybridizers plant many thousands of seeds to get a handful of intros. Still, there are those times when a small cross might yield multiple intros.

That's what makes it all so fun and exciting. I don't think your odds increase by buying from a particular seller. Instead, look for 'winner' parents and buy from whoever is selling those.

For instance, Wren's Song, Shores of Time and Leslie Renee are all siblings. I don't know how long this cross was...but it certainly was a good one!

Finally, some of the sellers that command high prices do so because of reputation and/or offering crosses from the latest and greatest...particularly those that are hard to come by...seeds may be the only way you can add those particular genetics to your efforts.

Just jump in and have fun....(from someone who has not registered any...but hopes to in the future...fourth year (and counting) doing the seed thing!)

I registered one, Snazzy Memories, that I got from seed purchased from Sscape & have a couple more I think are worthy of registration, too.
I doubt that the seller matters, like you said gonegardening, except some sellers have just exquisite taste, that is - it matches mine! *grin*

What does a "long" cross mean?

A "long" cross is many pods of the same parentage, usually producing hundreds or even thousands of seed. The objective is to see if they can get a few really special plants from recessive traits brought out in that specific cross.

A "short" cross is just a few pods to see what a pair of parents might produce together. Because of the smaller number of seed the dominant traits are most likely to be seen.

I bought a few crosses with the expectation that I may see some fun seedlings. But I bought majority with long-term breeding goals in mind, especially having to do with dormancy. I have a lot of seeds with 'Rock Solid,' 'Wonder of It All,' 'Shores of Time,' and 'Wren's Song' crossed with much larger and fancier flowers.

I have my second generation crosses planned out, but I expect that they may change a lot depending on what grows out of the first generation!

Considering that the professional hybridizers plant thousands of seedlings I would think the chances of getting an intro from an LA purchase of 3-5 seeds (as they usually seem to be sold) would be pretty slim. I guess the chance of winning the lottery is slim too but I still buy the tickets. Not much into seed planting if I can help it though.
