Hungry but Choosy Deer! Need Ideas!

Nancy Barginear

Finally, the deer have discovered my daylilies. They are very picky. They just like the central, new leaves, and are topping them off. They leave the older leaves. Aside from sitting up all night staring out my breakfast room window with a deer rifle, what can you recommend as a sure-fire deer repellent? I do not want to use Milorganite.

Should I get up at 4 A.M. and throw some firecrackers out back?

I understand that lights will keep them away, but that will take some time to arrange, unless I use solar garden lights.

I'm not sure if they would put out enough light to discourage them.

Coburg Preview rebloomed yesterday, and I went out to check on it to see if it was going to bloom again. (My one and only scape brave enough to bloom now, you see?) The deer had nipped off the waning flower and all but one of the buds.

I'd appreciate any and all suggestions.

Nancy
