How excited am I?!?!?!

After ALL my failures I think I may be on to something LOL..

Gabi, I can't thank you and everyone else enough for all your help...

I am getting new GROWTH and ROOTS from my cuttings

Hoya fungii

With growth

Hoya obovata

I will admit I was a little concerned because of the papery coating on the stem and then the stem is brown, seems like it's dead

pubicalyx (don't know which one)

And my best success story...

I got this kerrii in a round robin...it had a long stem and 3 nice leaves...and what did I do? Pretty much kill it... all the leaves (but one) fell off...the stem rotted... I trimmed it and started all over once I got the info from here.... and today, it actually has roots...lots of them on one stem ...

And all this isn't even mentioning my epis!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You did it!! I too just had some hoya cuttings root for me for the first time. It is VERY exciting to see new growths...

Glad it's working for you. No matter how long you've been doing this, you will fret over cuttings. I have some I'm trying to root right now, EXPENSIVE ones I got from Ted Green, and a couple are being very stubborn. I know they will likely root, but man it's making me nervous!!

BTW, I think your first photo is a carnosa. Fungii's leaves are quite a bit wider and the veins tend to be more prominent. Here's fungii...

Onions, leeks and artichokes started last week, some of the slower germinating hot peppers this week. The light stand is in an unheated, attached mudroom that I have commandeered for my plant room... Makes sense, right? Mud, plants.... Anyhow in real cold weather I run a little heat to keep the air temp about 50-60. The peppers start inside on top of the aquarium. Next week is the early sowing of broccoli and cabbage, plus the not quite as slow hot peppers (the really fast ones will be started with the tomatoes much later). I don't want to be overrun with peppers, so I'm only starting one of each type except for my Aji Pineapples, because I really like them. If you don't like a hot pepper, one plant produces way too many! Anyhow, this is usually when I start seeds, no expanding of my time frame for the weather!

lol....I'm not up to several.....yet....I've actually been more focused on painting. At the same GS I picked up 10 or so cupboard fronts (at least I think that's what they were going to be) and painted one for a welcome sign for friends that just moved into a new home. I also picked up a cheap coat tree that is going to be a bottle tree.....as soon as I drink some more wine.....I'll post the pix I have later tonite -- off to jury duty (nothing better to dampen the creativity!!)

Congratulations on the new tiller. I didn't know they made an electric one. I hope it works perfectly for you. I am still using my old 1976 Merry Tiller, pull start but very easy. They don't build them like it anymore. Three tools I couldn't do without: Riding Mower Merry Tiller Stihl String Trimmer (sorry about using the brand name, but I have had several and it is the best!) Our gardening is so much easier if the have the right tools!

Wow! We got blasted today. I was driving on a road this afternoon and the water was running UP the grade. That was wild looking. I was getting into it until a transformer got struck by lightning and blew up about 100 feet behind me. That gave me a pucker factor of 9.5 out of 10. Cooler temps mean better fishing this weekend!!!

Well happy news for most of them! Pls. try not to worry too much abt things like a corky stem or papery stem, sometimes Hoyas just do wacky things & if one watches them too closely sometimes they'll act out (sounds crazy I know).

I watched some peduncles developing all last winter, even bought a magnifier to look more closely, they just teased me all winter. A few wks ago they started budding up then blasted (we had a quick burst of a heat wave w/ little warning), now they're trying to bud up again.

Warning abt your Kerrii leaf, not to be a bummer, but roots on a single leaf MAY or MAY NOT develop into an actual plant. While I completely understand your excitement abt it, I suggest that you place it back in the mix & don't disrupt it further, 'cause when we unpot something w/ tiny new roots, the tiny new roots we've been praying for get injured & damaged, slowing the plant down even more.

I will just keep my fingers crossed on the kerrii ...and leave it alone! ... thanks for that info!

Yes, Karen's right. Let's hope there was a little bit of the stem left with that kerrii leaf cutting. If so, you should get some new growth eventually. If not, you'll just have a pretty rooted leaf. But even if it's just the rooted leaf, I'd hang on to it because you KNOW you'll have to go find a whole plant once you have that beautiful leaf and you can put them together. When a healthy leaf "pops" off a Hoya, I put it in the mix to root (which they don't always do...) and figure even if it never produces new growth, it will be a nice soil cover...
