Coming out of the Closet...

I've been lurking here, on and off, for a little over a year. But it is time for me to face the world and admit that I am a plant-a-holic. And YOU FOLKS are enablers of the worst kind. So I am blaming you and the people over at the daylily forum for the mail order madness that has struck my poor bank account!

I only had 25 hosta, and I now have another 14 on the way. That's more than half again as many! And I have a very small garden. Look at how you have corrupted me! THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!

You won't believe how easy the bottle was...after getting all the glue from the lable off I etched it with Armour Etch (got it at Michael's) make sure the bottle is dry then run a string of 20-35 Christmas lights in through the mouth of it...cut apart silk flower picks from the local craft store to be able to make your own floral design arrange them to hide the cord coming out the back and add a bow (mine was raffia)....that is it...Hope that helps Marlene 2008

Bathtub in a corner - Opinions, please

Our tub is in a corner. We've had no problems with that, and in fact I think a tub that is in a corner and actually attached to the two walls (as ours is--it's a classic 1930s tub with full tiled surround) is much easier to keep clean and dry since it limits the directions in which water could splash out of the tub. I suppose you could sit and swing, but I don't--I just step in. Oval is nice aesthetically, and when placed into a rectangular surround so it can be attached to the walls on one long side and one or both short sides, you also get a lot more room at the corners for shampoo and such than you would if the tub itself were rectangular.

Another Gadget-Lover here. Unfortunately for my bankbook, I've spent all too much time at chefsresources. I like the silicone trivets on the page Nancy posted. I lucked out and got 4 black ones on closeout at Crate&Barrel for $2 apiece. They are great for cast iron because of the magnet. You can just set the pan on it and carry the whole thing to the table. Oh, do I ever know it is just a drop in the bucket! But...
My back yard is 40' x 40', side yard 16' x 50', and I have a 20'x 20' patio in that back yard! Not to mention that I have lived here 9 years and have a pond, stream, and enough planted area that I trashed my lawnmower and just use a weed eater to mow!
AND I ordered 29 daylilies for sunny spots!
OF COURSE I am blaming everyone else! ! !

Welcome Kathy!

Just about a year ago I only had 2 hostas. Now I have around 40 and I thought I didn't have any more room either. It's amazing how creative you will become at finding places to plant hostas, lol!

The season has just begun.....

Don't consider this an addiction but therapy!!! (lol)
I also have a small space but have incooperated many tricks to place hosta's and still have the beloved perennial collection that I started out with first. I will tell you I got bitten by daylilies also at first.
But since I needed more room for hosta's I dedicated one area of my yard for the daylilies. Their leaves can spread and their heads are in the sun. Now I am left for areas for hosta's. Also pots & urns can be used to elevate some above others...get the idea. More space available. This year we have a brain storm....we are using our large lined baskets for hosta's, instead of impatiens. My baskets have holes tucked around the sides which I will place some impatients in for color.

So be creative...there is always room for one more!
There's also mini's and smalls.

Therapy? Therapy I can do!
I ordered some mini/dwarf/small ones, telling myself that it doesn't count 'cause they take up soooo little space!
You guys are great, I am sure I will need more therapy sessions before this is resolved!
Can't wait for the snow to melt. At least it is not too unseasonably cold here, nothing has gotten damaged by the weather except some early daffodils.

Welcome Kathy ! I too am new , just joined the forum my self. I have learned so much the past few weeks, I keep taking notes so I know what to get when I can go "hosta shopping" here soon. My first order was 8 last year , but my new lists are sooo long ! What a fun bunch who have assembled here , I so enjoy reading the posts . Please let us know how your orders arrive as its good info for us newbis , and makes us feel less guilty when others order more:-) -Dot

To prevent you from overdose, I bravely volunteer!! When the next box o'hosta arrives, cross off your own address and write in mine, with the instruction in bright red: "Please forward to Lisa Small..."

Gee, Lisa, that's mighty kind of you!
Could be it's too late though, I ordered a few more and I think I am seriously stricken with the disease!
And the nurseries around here haven't even stocked up for the season, 'bout all you can buy is mulch. I'm gonna be in real trouble soon....
I need some dwarf conifers, a couple rhodies and azaleas, and of course, more hosta!
sigh, it's a tough life, I hope I can cope.
