Both my daughter and I,bought some a few years ago. We bought two different colors. I just do not remember the colors.:-)
The summer heat cooked them.
We bought them at "Turkey Road Nursery" in Belleview. They had dozens.

You save me a cutting of the orange and I'll save you some of my new babies - pink, yellow and variegated! It may be a few weeks, though cause they're growing out of a tiny 2.5" pot that I got from glasshouseworks. You and I seem to have the same taste in plants! LOL

I had them in mostly sun. Maybe I'll try growing them again.
I was not at cindee's swap. I have never been to a swap. It is a shame right? My wife said maybe will go to Kate.

Cliff, I have been growing the 'fruit cocktail' for about 3 years and it performs best of any I have. The red does good, the yellow hangs in, but I have had no luck with the flamingo flower type at all. I have tried the pink, white and yellow of those and only the pink survived more than one year. I love the 'fruit cocktail' and could send you one if you are going to Kate's swap (if katkin will be my transporter).

Kristi gave me a purple shrimp at the swap. It has wonderfully veined leaves. Is this a justica?? I had the golden shrimp for a couple of years that did fab in part shade in the front of the house. Then when we pulled everything out to do the raised hacienda brick bed, I lost them. I am confused, there's Justicas, Aphlandra Sinclariana and shrimp plants. Are they all the same or some what different?

Wow!! Cindeea, that is gorgeous!! It does look like a shrimp plant which is in the justicia family, but it has that long other botanical name. I know there are several cultivers/species/varieties of justicia, but the only two I am familiar with are J. brandegeana and J. carnea. I don't know which type Cliff is looking for.

Keep us posted on how that beautiful plant grows. I'm adding it to my wish list.

The Brazilian Fireworks is gorgeous but so is the Fruit Cocktail. Any idea where I can find them in Orlando???? I have a nice shady corner that would be perfect. I'm sure the peacock ginger wouldn't mind sharing the bed with them.

I saw them about a month ago at HD for sale, but not this healthy. Ya gotta love Kristi. Maybe if you are real sweet to her, she might find you one too!

I absolutely love the leaf veins, the are so sharp looking.

I have yellow, pink, orange, and a new named pink "plume" from Logees that is supposed to be very vibrant.

I find the orange to be happy in sun, the yellow to like a mix, and the pink to prefer a lot of shade.

Also from Logees I got Aphelandra sinclairiana, which is hot pink and red.

The common ones are easy, easy, easy to root. I will bring some to Kate's. I hope my fancy Logee's plants are easy too - but they are just babies so I will not have any cuttings this fall - maybe next year!

Does anyone have giant shrimp plant? I got some last year at UCF arboretum but managed to murder them before getting them planted :-(

Next to coleus, cuphea, and salvia this is my favorite families of plants! (Acanthaceae) Shrimp plants, pachystachy, crossandra are just a few in this group. I will be bringing some babies of whatever I have to Kate's. I just weeded an area in my back yard and realize I have the small pink type! I have fruit cocktail and the large yellow also so will get busy propagating them also! Oh Cliff I also have an aquatic purple justicia, not showy but neat to have.

Oh yeah, speaking of beautiful, Kat brought me the pale aqua flowered crossandra green ice. Such an awesome flower!

I never have any luck with teh shrimp version, but I have tyhe pink and orange flamongo flower versions and they both do very well for me. Especially the orange. I also have an orange that is just single flowers...very nice but not near as showy. I even have a ground cover version, Justicia pectorialis, that I love.
