Blue Angel slowly gets huge while Blue Cadet remains a small hosta. Good growing!

I agree with Tim.
Blue Cadet is a smallish mound with smallish leaves. Reaches maturity within a few years.
Blue Angel, will have very large leaves and take a bit longer to reach maturity.
There is absolutely NO WAY you could confuse these two if that's what you're worried about!

BC leaf size is about the size of your hand ...presuming you arent some kinda pixie ... a mans hand ...

BA can be larger than a beachball.. or your arms spread and two index fingers touching ...

the bare roots are probably indistinguishable .... unless one set is significantly larger ...

now.. why plant two blues next to each other.. sounds dull ... think that part out

BA will take 7 to 10 years to fully mature.. plant it where it will NEVER needs to be dug up ... and plant nothing closer than 6 feet ... or you will start the 7 year clock over again if you have to move it ....

or plant smaller hosta that can be easily moved in a couple years.. with no major setback ... i would put something yellow and another variegated near it.. not another blue ...

Ken, I assume you mean size of your palm. Else, what are giving yours - Vitameatavegamin (I Love Lucy reference).

Zilis lists leaves approx 5"x4" for Blue Cadet with clump 15" high x 38" wide;

and for Blue Angel- leaves approx 16"x12" and clump 32" high x 70" wide.

For me, Blue Cadet is fast growing - in 2 years you should have a nice clump. More blue-green than blue. Pic below is from '08 -- was probably sprouting 4 divisions/eyes in spring '06.

My Blue Angel is planted in mostly shade under an oak canopy and is slow to get big (like many of the big blues it seems). Pic below is from June 09 - clump I started with was good size and planted in 06. Distance between back set of trees is probably 8-9'. I did what Ken suggests - found a spot where I wouldn't need to move it.

Thanks for all the good info everyone. I will plant the B.A. in its own shady spot in the bak yard. The B.C. will go the front yard with the smaller Hostas

If your front yard is sunny, BC will be more green than blue. Like Ken said,.... blue is all about the waxy coating on the leaf that gets burnt off when exposed to sun.

I CANNOT wait until my Blue Angel grows up. It has been about four years now. Hope it looks as good as yours, Paul. And thanks for the giggle-I loved that Lucy episode!

Here BC is just that, a Blue 'Cadet', smallish, but tight and a quality plant. BA is a big ol' monster, prolific seeder, and, yup, needs a lot of room to keep from crowding it's neighbors.

Both are good ones to have, wethinks!
