DriWater

Has anyone tried using DriWater or any other wetting agentson their hoyas? I'm going on a 2-week honeymoon next month and need to find a way to water my hoyas. I'm especially concerned about the smaller pots and the hypersensitive hoyas like h. Imperialis.

Last year I went on 3 weeks vacation. I took all hoyas and other plants from the deck to downstairs near the window and hang them (or put on the floor) on the expandable coat rack. Then I covered the whole thing with clear plastic - losely, but completely. Kind of a temporary greenhouse. I watered everything a few days before that, so the plants were moist, but not soaked. Works just fine! A lot of hoyas grew airal roots, because of the moisture.
The small cuts I put in clear plastic jars or covered with clear baggies. Did't loose anything.

Thanks for input....I have a deck at the back of the apartment, so maybe i'll try this. It would suck to come home from vacation and find all the hoyas dead after nurturing them for so long!

Yes, I've read that the talc in bar soap can cause etching to glass. I really tried every single product that I could find to get my shower glass clear again. We finally agreed that it was permanently etched and nothing could be done. My glass was similar to yours, with the problems being at the bottom of the glass. I also wonder if some of the cleaning products may have added to it. When it was time to remodel the bathroom, I designed the new shower so that it would not need any glass.

Ficus lyrata are notorious for being difficult plants for a beginner/black thumb, but I think plants are not difficult as long as you give them what they need. That being said they enjoy lots of light so I'm thinking your placement is good. Doesn't look unhealthy to me, but keep an eye out for unexpected leaf loss. I can't tell what those brown spots are though, could be nothing. They also do not like to move around too much...so wherever you decide let it settle. My experience with drainage is always holes. I pot the plant in the black plastic pots like the ones from the nursery and set it inside the nice pot. This provides good drainage and you can easily move or repot the plant while still using the pretty pot. If you want to leave it in your current set up just make sure you don't overwater. Disclaimer: I am not an expert, but figured I would share the little I do know.

While doing a deep-dive through a Q&A for my specific brand of tile, I found that another customer had asked the same question and this was the manufacturer response: ”Hi, Thank you for your question regarding our 8x48 Natural Timber porcelain tile. When the tile goes through the kiln, we (like all tile manufacturers) place a solution on the bottom of the tile to ensure the tile does not bake/stick to the conveyor belt. Once the tile is fired, that solution becomes a white powder that should just brush off as you pull the tile out of the master carton. There is no adhering agent, but maybe there has been some humidity along the way and it is not just falling off. Using some non-abrasive cleaning solution (water mixed with some vinegar would be fine) and some "elbow grease" will remove the white color.” I guess that answers that!

You do know Aloes are succulents right? As such they are able to hold water in reserve in their leaves. I have multiple Aloes growing on a west window, I don't water more often than 7-10 days. Not sure why you're watering so much, doesn't seem right & sounds like it won't end well. 3" of mix is a lot of mix beneath the roots, especially if you're watering so often. You were asked for a pic for a reason, so we can see from the plant, what's going on from the look of the plant, tells much more than any description. Can't really give General advice like that, too many variables.

Julia, during the vacation my plants were all in the house, not on the deck (I was afraid to leave them outside in case of too hot weather - they would bake under the plastic, or too strong wind, etc).
