Oh how wonderful that you're getting bloom from your babies already! They are all great, but that 2nd one just glows. I love that color. Don't recall having ever seen one just that hue. It's marvelous!
I so hope the weather stays warm enough for you to get more bloom from your seedlings...be sure to post them for us to see. :)

Jan, The first one is Sink Into Your Eyes X Ornate Hawk Eagle. The second one (hard to believe but true) is Facepaint X Bridey Greeson. The third one is I Wanna Piranha X Bass Gibson.

I love all three, but if I wasn't allowed all three I would choose no.2 for sure. It is divine.

Could you share your technique? I don't want to wait 2 years to see my blooms. I have some seeds starting now, then plan 20 oz cups, then 2 gallon pots, then ground by mid April 2009. I'm don't want them to be root bound though. All three are great, favorite is # 3.

Hi Waytogrow, I really don't know if what I do here would work for you there in Michigan. When you live that far north it seems like a greenhouse is your best option to see first year bloom. I start to germinate my seeds in January. I plant the sprouted seeds in large plastic cups with as many as 6+ seeds in a cup....this year I think I will limit that to 4 per cup. I found that meeting the nutritional demands of 6+ seedlings per cup was something of a challenge. The seedlings grow under grow lights all through the winter. When the outdoor temperature starts to warm in May, I will start planting them in the seedling beds. I would like to have them all planted before the 1st of June, but so far haven't been able to do that. Maybe next year.....:-). It seems that only the ones that are planted early will start to put scapes up in late August/early September.....then I pray the weather works in my favor, and I get to see some bloom before the frost hits. Here are few more FFO this morning.

Isn't is just great that after most of the reg. daylilies are finished you can get some seedlings blooming to brighten up your day.

We have had 1st year seedlings blooming now for 4 weeks. Took a number of photos in the past week, but just don't have time to resize and upload for net use. We're too busy cleaning the evaluation seedlings out of the beds, so we have room for next years crop.

Tanya was not happy that for 2 weeks nothing worth taking photos of bloomed, but this past week a few made up for that. Should be able to post some photos this weekend.

WTG on your new ones. Really like the 2nd one of the first group.

I just wanted to thank everyone who posted here for their kind words and encouragement.

Bruce and Tanya, I'm really looking forward to seeing those pics of your most recent blooms when you find the time to get them up. I really liked the the pics you posted a week or so back. Those looked SUPER. It is a lot of fun to see seedlings putting on their first show, when other DL's have finished or are reblooming if you're lucky. I can't wait to see how these DL's look in their 2nd year.....hopefully enough of them will survive our wonderful Western PA winter.

We thought the winter would cull some of last years grown indoors, but really out of the 700 or so only 7 didn't make it and we don't mulch. They will be just fine. 8-)]

Lovely seedlings, and what a surprise to experience first year blooms! I have to wait two-three years to see blooms in my zone.
