Naylor Creek Order Arrived Today

Left to right: Aristocrat which broke into two plants, Clear Fork River Valley, and Mango Tango. Unfortunately it's going below freezing for 8 hours tonight and my next planting opportunity is Friday after work. The beds for Clear Fork River Valley and Mango Tango are ready and waiting. I'll leave those in water (crowns dry) until then. The Aristocrat will have to go in a pot until it's bed is ready.

OMG, if I get my Naylor Creek order soon, I think I'm gonna stroke out! This weather isn't ready for that, yet! Not in NC, anyway! I have been covering all my beds for 3 nights now b/c pips are showing. I am so not ready for mine!

Naylor Creek is my #1 resource for hostas, I think they are awesome. Ken's right, they are super friendly (still!) and will be glad to let you know where you are in the process. I do everything via website ordering, so not sure how they handle snail mail, but they have been known to mail out confirmations via snail mail, so I would bet that is why you haven't received it yet. Receiving, processing the order and mailing out a confirmation would make you just now expecting the confirmation to arrive and that is if there's no delay in processing because it was a check. I would just give them a call if you are concerned at all, but know that you are in good hands with them! They handle my crazy orders perfectly and that takes talent b/c I am always sending them additions and they are very gracious when I drive them nuts adding hostas to an existing order instead of just ordering them all at once. Always fast to process and sends back a personal note now and again. Couldn't be happier with how they do their business. I think they have my credit card on speed dial, lol, cause of my tendency to "add" here and there. Gotta love the convenience that they offer me (or is that enabling?!)

That's a lot more eyes than I have ever gotten from Naylor Creek. Don't believe I ever got a two-eyed plant. Three times I've gotten two one-eyed plants, but I'd rather have one two-eyed plant. Twice I planted both one-eyed plants (Key Lime Pie and Queen of the Seas) in a single hole, and after two full years they still aren't much. The other time, I planted the two Love Pats in different holes. One is doing OK and will probably one day turn into a hosta. The other is growing into something, but it isn't Love Pat anymore. Pointed leaves. I bought a nice local Love Pat and put it in that hole and put the Naylor Creek Love Pat in a pot to see what finally happens. This year I bought Empress Wu, and I put it in a protected seedling bed because it's too small and fragile to go out in the real world. I look at it and scratch my head -- this is the world's largest hosta? Oh yea, I also bought a Jim Matthews a few years back, and that is still a ways from being a serious hosta. That was also two one-eyed plants. One died. So Naylor's doesn't really impress me much. Nice photos though. What impresses me is to walk into a local all-purpose nursery and come away with a 50-inch Blue Angel as I did this summer.

Congrats! Those look great. Sounds as though we all spent Labor Day bidding and spending. Good for us! I will also post pics next week when mine arrive. I was hoping to get one of the Ruffed Up. Guess you beat me to it. Lucky you. I meant to ask the Boyz to add one to my order, but forgot. Think I will do that now. I really like that one. This is like Christmas watching everyone open their gifts! Fun. Cynthia

Nice plants! Paradise Backstage is a very good grower... tends to be a little taller than On Stage for me. It is an oddity... one might expect that when On Stage, which is a reverse sport of montana Aureomarginata, gets a green centered sport, that it will look like (or be) mA. PB is distinctly different. On interesting thing I've noticed is that mA is one of the first up in the spring, and OS is one of the last. One might guess that both green-centered plants will have similar emergence... early in this case... but PB shares OS tendency to emerge late. as to Heat Wave... it is very attractive. And you are right, mbug, to practice looking forward to its maturing... I've had a couple for years and I'm still waiting for them to mature! What else can one expect from tokudama heritage? Lovely and sloooowwwww.... Paradise Sunshine is a relatively fast grower and flowers well, like the rest of the family. Nice plant. I don't see a reverse Guacamole when I look at it, though... more like a green centered, light margined fragrant hosta in the family with the green being darker than the center of the scion, Fragrant Bouquet... and lighter than Fragrant King.

can any of you literally see the pot shape ????? i can ...

repot and put in the garage.. until weather breaks .. as these have broken dormancy .... as the pips are extending.. but will be in slow motion if the weather holds cold ... probably.. still frost proof at this point.. but i wouldnt be willing to test that.. lol ... nor test it with a freeze .... garage it is ...

besides... they wont like cold soil on transplant ...

funn.. there just isnt that much drama in hosta.... crikey ...

My order arrived from Naylor today as well. Gary sure has been busy, and likely to be more so even as the March Madness comes to an end. Have you noticed all their AUCTIONS?

Well, I have. And though I placed my order before December, they were nice enough to add the two winners to my Monday shipment, for a better shipping price total overall.

So if you think your order from late 2013 (mine was placed in October) is soon to ship, check out their HL Auctions for a lagniappe hosta or two which can piggyback with your original order. It worked for me.

I have mine unwrapped but not pictured yet. Maybe tomorrow. I have Erotica, Parthenon, The Sweetest Thing, Irish Eyes, Stargate #2, Bamse, with auction winners Android and Monsoon.

ken, I see it! They were in pots! There was only one root that broke when the Aristocrat came apart; none of the other roots were intertwined. The root balls certainly look pot shaped.

Denis, thanks for your good wishes.

Funn, you can be as dramatic as you like. Authenticity rules! You could skip the stroke out affirmation, however, it's bad for your health.

I'm going to put them in the ground Friday if the forecast holds. No freezing temps for the next 15 days.

And Mocc, you're retired, right? This thoroughness of yours has got to be innate, and if you brought that to your career, your boss misses you!

Funn, perhaps you might be a cousin twice removed....no lid on happy is so true. And VKathy, not sure they miss me at work, but organization was something I did very well (until I got tired and bored by it all). hehehehe....I've been told I have lots of good ideas, just TOO MANY OF THEM.

Meanwhile, it started raining here last night with a lot of regular lightning, and it continues today, overcast, a steady rain with no wind to deflect, straight down, puddling in the lawn. And I thought it was going to be a dry spring! Well, the new hosta kids are all getting a good taste of their new lifestyle. Hope they like it.
