Been looking at your great garden photos in the 'gallery' and came across a hosta i would love to know the name of, i have posted the picture with the hosta circled..please can you be so kind as to tell me..many thanks

Oh, hi there UK!!! I've been more of a 'no show' than a 'hanger on', this winter! I confess to being very
preoccupied in a non-hosta sort of way, hoping the winter will pass more quickly if I don't continue to come
here
and drool (as I HAVE DONE, btw) from time to time!!

Thank you for posting my pix and giving me hope for what's to come--back--hopefully!!!

You've picked two of mine that I am so in love with! The first is 'Flemish Sky'! I love the look and color
so much, that I ordered another one for this Spring! It looks like it looks--sort of a turquoisey-blue-green!
How's that for a Crayola crayon color!!!

The other one is 'Cutting Edge! It is such a beauty, for a solid, especially in the Spring but it just continues
to be impressive even beyond Spring, with those luscious curvy leaves!!

I just got 'Flemish Sky' last year so I don't have much to show--yet, in terms of growth rate!

Oh, another thing I remembered as I went back to look at the pics. again--I used the 'sharpen' tool, (the one that looks like a large triangle) to move along the edges of certain parts of the pics, especially the eyes once they were tweaked. I find that a very useful tool, as well. I used it to play up the texture of the coats and the fur especially in the bathtub! Also, you can even control the amount of change these tools will make, up in the tool bar. There is a slide that tells you, when you move it left and right how much change it will make. As in the case of the air brush tool, you can choose what it will do, by the drop-down arrow to the right of the brush size menu. I use 'overlay' some, now that I realize what it can do and you can vary the amount of overlay spray it makes with that slide I talked about! It is very useful in making something look like a water-color effect! I had a time, recently, adding the head of a person into a group shot we had, where the guys' original head was badly blurred. We needed it for a brochure at church. I had to take a separate photo of him, in what I thought was similar conditions and then cut and pasted it in the original group shot. It was not much like the original lighting conditions, I soon found out, and it was a lot of work to make it look right. Finally, I was able to make it 'right' if you didn't know it wasn't in the original shot--otherwise, to me, I could still see the difference in clarity etc. Very challenging but I do LOVE a challenge! Everyone seemed happy with the results, but me. The perfectionist part in me I guess!! Again, have fun!

Re: slipping stitches, generally stitches are slipped purlwise except when specified or doing decreases where they are worked right away after being slipped, like the SSK. Slipping purlwise maintains the correct mount of the stitch for the the next row. When you slip a stitch stitchwise, it is twisted, which is useful in some cases like decreases. The pattern may not have specified the way to slip because people knit differently. Combined knitting or eastern knitting will twist stitches so the way you slip would depend on how you work it on the next row. Incidentally I think that Annie Modesitt who designed this scarf has promoted awareness of different knitting styles, which is great because some knitters have been criticized unfairly for doing it the "wrong" way. Frozen cranberries in quick bread: questions

I also chop/halve mine by hand, and it goes pretty quickly. This is one of my faves for cranberry bread. Cook's Illustrated Cranberry Nut Bread 1/3 cup fresh orange juice 1 T. grated orange zest 2/3 cup buttermilk 6 T. butter, melted 1 large egg, beaten lightly 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup granulated sugar 1 tsp. table salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 cups cranberries (about 6 ounces), chopped coarse 1/2 cup toasted pecans, chopped coarse 1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 375 degrees. 2. Grease bottom of 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Stir together orange juice, zest, buttermilk, butter, and egg in small bowl. Whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in large bowl. Stir liquid ingredients into dry with rubber spatula until just moistened. Gently stir in cranberries and pecans. Do not overmix. 3. Scrape batter into loaf pan and spread with rubber spatula into corners of pan. Bake 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees; continue to bake until golden brown and toothpick inserted in center of loaf comes out clean, about 45 minutes longer. Cool in pan 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack and cool at least 1 hour before serving.

Those are incandescent bulbs so they get hot. Whether you can put them in a recessed housing in the ceiling will depend on the housing. This Halo H7 housing, for example, has a maximum bulb wattage of 75 watts and this Commercial Electric housing has a maximum bulb wattage of only 60 watts. There is probably a label inside your housings which will show the maximum wattage. Unscrew the bulb and take a look. Don't exceed the maximum wattage. If there's no label, I'd assume NO. Next time, buy an LED grow light bulb such as this Feit 9-Watt BR30 LED Grow Light Bulb which will work in any recessed housing of the appropriate size, will generate far less heat, and will cost much less to operate.

many thanks for posting your great pictures,i have ordered both!...do you have any other photos of 'pie-crust'or rippled edge hostas you recommend....i have loved looking at your garden over the cold winter months,they have really inspired my addiction!

I'm so glad my small garden has given you hope for Spring, UK!! :o) For me, I have had to avoid this forum
and all those BEE-YU-TEE-FULL pix because it just makes my longing for Spring that much more intense!!! Groan!

But, now that we're getting closer to the reality of Spring (was 68 degrees Fahrenheit/20 Celsius and rain and thunder
here today) I am finding myself wandering back to the forum!!

I don't have that many 'unique' pie-crusted, but I am looking forward to what 'Niagara Falls' will become in my garden,
with it being new for me last year. I also purchased 'Ginsu Knife' last year so have high hopes for it and my 'Spring Fling'!

I found this link for you, though, where at the bottom, our beloved Papou had posted some of his nice pie-crusts
that I think will inspire you, even more than any I might have!! :o)

Drool away and feed the addiction we all have and thanks to the pix of your garden--I have a very smeary monitor! ;o)

Ooops!! I failed to notice that the wonderful pix of 'Spring Fling' and 'Ginsu Knife'
were posted by 'Buff'!!! Sorry, Buff!! Hope you'll be able to post more this year!!!

For a slightly curvy leafed hosta, that is pretty interesting and beautiful, check out
'Jewel of the Nile', but maybe you have already! :o)

Ken will be quick to remind me, that the striping won't last and I'm afraid he is probably right,
but while those leaves are striping, I will enjoy them thoroughly, and will do what I can to maintain
a plant that keeps on keeping on by culling out the stripe-less divisions as they develope!!
