best banana for containers
Comments (2)'Dwarf Cavendish' is a nice, easy, common one that can do well in containers. Its probly the smallest practical edible banana to grow in a container. Also if you want to look for Musa 'Mahoi', its the same as 'Dwarf Cavendish' except that 2nd generation and on plants will produce multiple bunches of fruit, it can also sometimes be a slightly smaller plant....See MoreBest banana trees for zone 7?
Comments (6)I have had good success with Musa Basjoo in zone 6 when planted up against the foundation of the house, pretty much seem to be bulletproof, although I do mulch and tarp mine just for added insurance. This year I am also trying a banana sold to me as Musa Mekong Giant. Supposed to be cold hardy, according to the seller, but I also read that this banana is actually Musa Yunnanensis, not sure if it really is though. You also might want to look into Itinerans....See MoreBest Banana Fertilizer EVER! Milorganite
Comments (17)this was taken from an ag Canada article Sludgewatch Admin: Troubled times for Milorganite. High fuel costs for drying, lots of cities giving away free sludge pellets, (or paying people to take it), make it harder to justify making Milorganite. In 2004 there were 16,308 tons of Milorganite was sent to Florida. That's nearly half their production. And I notice that in the past, lab tests for Milorganite were coming from a laboratory that was not accredited to do tests on sludge....wonder if that is still the case. And Canada had to send back a batch of Milorganite because it was growing salmonella. But the folks at Milorganite don't even bother to test for salmonella, so how is the company going to know whether the material it is sending to Canada complies with Canada's fertilizer requirements? You see, the US allows a Class A sludge product like Milorganite to be contaminated with salmonella so long as it meets the fecal coliform counts. So wash your hands. Keep the kids away. And golfers...? You might want to keep your gloves on when you touch your balls....See Morebest banana
Comments (8)I was looking into getting a banana and trying to do research to see which one was the best and most amazing in terms of flavor. From various reviews and different expert's opinions who had tried many varieties, I decided on Mysore. Well, actually 'pisang Ceylon' which is supposed to be an improvement over Mysore. Mysore is a variety that can get to be well over 20ft tall though which probably explains why most tropical specialty nurseries do not carry it. Several other varieties are supposed to be very good too: Goldfinger, Namwah, and 'Ice Cream'. Everyone's tastes and preferences seem to be a little different to some extent (in some cases what may be an excellent tasting variety for one person may just taste okay to someone else). Manzano is also supposed to be good, and Raja Puri isn't bad either. Someone mentioned pisang susu is supposed to be among the best, but is really hard to find....See Morehappy_fl_gardener; 9a, near DeLand
