The LED lights are from Ebay from a company called LED wholesalers INC. This will be the first time I use the lights for an application other than supplemental light. The lights come in varying wattages but I use the least expensive panels because I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars and I really don't need lights that are that powerful. A 90W LED light is the equivalent of 400-600W HPS light. A mix of red and blue LED's is the best for growth and flowering while white just adds extra brightness. The colour of the light is not very noticeable unless it's in a dark room and the lights run cool/warm instead of hot and are very slim and light which makes them easy to install. I also found some really cool LED aquarium lights that are a strip of lights sealed (water tight) in a tube and are used to simulate moon light at night. I may add two small strips to the inside of the tank to boost the blue portion of the light spectrum under the white panels. If you want an extremely bright grow light you will have to spend the money. There are 1000W equivalent daylight panels out there but they are really expensive although prices are starting to come down slowly. So far I am pleased with my single red/blue panel and my Hoyas have been growing very well under it although they do get some light from a south facing window that is about five feet away. You do need to keep the plants as close to the panel as possible to maximize it's effect. My panel is quite high above my plants but I only wanted it to provide light to the taller plants as they climb their supports. What exactly were the negative comments about LED grow lights? I can always post my experience with these lights after a few months or some time during the winter. If my plants don't bloom or grow well we will know that they are not bright enough. I have a couple of Hoyas I inherited from my Mom, but they have not bloomed for me. I haven't yet done anything for them either, to get them to bloom. They are the ordinary variety you see everywhere, not the fancy leafed ones.

vacuumfreak, sounds like you have a great system working for you. I always find it helpful to run some hot water in the sink while I'm cooking. Not a full sink but some and any utensils I'm using can start to soak immediately. This helps me keep up with the dishes. I really have a problem with washing dishes immediately after a meal. I like to be able to enjoy the meal, relax, maybe have dessert later and not rush into doing the dishes. I like to have them soak and that way they're ready to quickly swish, rinse and dry in the rack. BTW, for the one who gets a flavor from the Direct Foam, I'm sure you're just not rinsing them right. Or you're using too much soap. I've always found Dawn & Joy to be the best for rinsing off easily. Sunlite is pretty good. Generics are the worst, Palmolive is pretty bad. Water makes a difference. Find what works best for you. A couple tips: It's a good idea to give brushes, sponges, etc an occasional bleach soaking to kill off the crud. I like having a small, cheap flexible plastic putty knife handy for cleaning things on the counter or on dishes. BTW, I'm not sure the advantage of having a dishpan in the sink. I just put less water in the sink. If you have only one sink, of course it's a benefit, but I don't understand the need. I have the drainer out of the sink. Have thought about leaving it in there and rinsing, but I often have more dishes so it would pile up over so I have the drain tray divert the water to the sink and use one sink for washing and the other for rinsing. Sometimes plug the sink to hold the water for rinsing. But if there's a lot, then you have to change the water or you'll leave soap on the dishes and get the taste. Don't want that! :)

Lockii, despite looking like multiflora/javanica, does not require as much water. I have mine in a large clear deli container, grown in LECA (hydroton). I have holes around the sides of the container, like this (sorry, out of town for a couple of days, so my plants aren't around to photograph):No holes in the bottom of the container. When I owned lauterbachii (sold it...took up valuable real estate), it grew REALLY well for me. Full sun, lots of water in the summer. Full sun, bottom heat, and drier in the winter. sp. Kalimantan, although not the fastest grower, does well for me, in a mix of 1/4 inch orchid bark, #3 perlite, long fiber New Zealand sphagnum moss cut into 1/4 inch chunks, and 1/4 inch LECA. I water mine once a week. Bright, indirect sun. I have always had issues with lasiantha, but it did best for me if I only paid attention to it when it needed watering. It did best grown semi-hydro in LECA. Bright, indirect sun. sp. UT-168 is now named (Hoya ruthiae...not to be confused with Hoya cv. Ruthie). It does best grown in an orchid mix. It is very sensitive to over-watering, so I let it dry out between waterings. Bright, indirect sun. Hoya praetorii grows well for me, which is surprising, seeing as how lasiantha hates my guts. I grow it in LECA, semi-hydro. Bright, indirect sun. Your results may vary, depending on your specific growing preferences, your geographic climate (where you live), and your individual micro-climate (the area/room/greenhouse you plan to grow your hoyas in).
