Is GHW Glasshouseworks? If so, I've heard they're pretty pricey. Did you feel you got a good sized plant(s) for your money? I've also heard they can be unreliable with their IDs. How'd you feel about the ones you got?

Hi Denise. It is Glasshouse Works. I don't think they are any more expensive than Gardino's price wise, except a few hoyas are priced really high for some unknown reason. For instance, their Kerrii 'Reverse' is $45 and their Kerrii 'Variegata' is $30. The rest are pretty much price for price. Size wise, what a difference. They are little bitty compared to Gardino's. I thought the hoyas I got from them were fantastic until I heard about Gardinos and saw the size of their plants. Frankly, I have no plans of ever ordering from them again.

Gorgeous Pug and Trini!!! Again, Ooooooo and Ahhhhhhh!!! I love looking at the leaves, maybe more so than the flowers. I think there is such a great emphasis on the flowers because they are often hard to attain. Dont' get me wrong, they are fabulous, but let's enjoy the gorgeous foliage of the plants and give them their just deserts!!!

I hope these pics show up!!! It's been a while since I posted I any and I think I may have forgotten how!! This is H. polystachya IML 1410 with leaves almost the size of a dinner plate!!

This is one of my favorite hoyas for it's foliage,H callistophylla. This particular leaf measured in at 7" long and 2 1/2"W. The difference in how diverse each leaf on this plant is ,is amazing no two seem to be exactly alike

this is another favorite for it's huge lush green foliage and as an extra added bonus each leaf is bordered by a thin black line!!! This is H. vitellina/fusco-marginata IML 0452

This is H. vitellinoides and should be in anyone's collection who loves those intricately veined hoyas!!!

Wow Mike. I have both the H. callistophylla and H. Vitellinoides and I think Vitellinoides is a better looking hoya and a must have. I just think the veining is much more pleasing. Your H. polystachya IML 1410 and H. vitellina/fusco-marginata IML are amazing!!! You and some of the others are fortunate to have some of the more unusual hoyas. I love Denise's H. fungiii ad H. sp. Nong Nooch, Pugs H. Royal Flus and H. Sigillatis and of course your H. polystachya IML 1410 and H. vitellina/fusco-marginata IML.

From the looks of these leaves,everyone's hoyas appear to be very happy and healthy!!! Some of those pubicalyx pics at the top of the thread are really awesome!!

Mike I also grow hoya sp. Sumatra IML 1198 but mine looks more like the hoya that you have labeled as IML 1346. Did you get both 1198 and 1346 from D.L.??? I got my 1198 from a U.S. vendor who's name shall remain unmentioned here as I no longer care to speak of them or promote their hoyas. Considering the large number of mislabeled plants that I know I got from this person it is highly likely that this one was also one of them.

I have a list that I got from David Liddle with the names and IML #'S of 1,902 (one thousand nine hundred two) hoyas in his colletion on it. David has both 1198 and 1346 listed as being equivalent to each other but judging by the looks of your photos they appear to be quite different to me.

Have you seen either bloom yet?? I have a pic somewhere on here of my sp. IML 1198 in bloom but i'll have to go back a few pages to find it.

David I lost the tag on that IML 1198 but I am sure that is the correct number. Both plants are from Mr. Liddle and were from last spring. Mr.Liddle told me that IML 1346 is Hoya vitellinoides and I believe that it is not usually listed in the catalog but I had seen a photo of the leaves so I requested a cutting. There is both a leaf and flower photo of Hoya sp. IML 1198 on the Stemma journal site but I have been unable to view them because of some site problems. The flower if I remember has an ivory corona and an apple green corolla. From the photo I would guess the flowers are flat and do not reflex but I am unsure. The veins on the leaf are actually indented and the surface is matte vs shiny. The two Hoyas are definitely different but they may be closely related.

I was able to take a look at IML 1198 on the Stemma journal site and the flowers are very reflexed. The corona is ivory, but I would say the corollas are a yellowish color with reddish-brown tips. (I hope I have the corona/corolla parts designated correctly?)

Try looking at the Stemma journal site again. Since I was able to get in to view the photos, whatever issues the site may have been having, they look to be resolved now.

Those flowers look just like the flowers on the Stemma journal website except that that the flowers are fully re-flexed in the photo on the Stemma Journal site.

I should know better than to trust my memory. LOL
That plant is actually Hoya sp. Kapit Borneo IML 1029 and not IML 1198 which was a substitute in case one of my other choices was not available. I don't even have Hoya sp. IML 1198 but I did look it up and found photos of leaves that look very much like my Hoya sp. IML 1346 so they may be multiple collections of one species. I did manage to find the tag for the unidentified species and it reads Hoya sp. VL9 which may be Hoya revoluta var deficens.

Great looking leaves, guys!! I've a question for you, Mike (Ont)....are those leaves on H. waymaniae supposed to look like that....sorta like they're dehydrated? Mine looks the same way....I'm always tempted to water it, but the soil is moist...so, I don't. My waymaiae is considerably larger than yours, and I like the colours, but I don't like the dehydrated appearance...though the indentations are very nice...I just would prefer that the leaves were flatter and more succulent. Mine is about 16 inches tall...and the leaves give me the impression that the plant is ready to keel over and die!! LOL Thanks, Mike!! Patrick

Patrick I have been growing my Hoya waymaniae pretty dry this winter but it is not dehydrated. Do a Google search for Hoya waymaniae and look the the photos, that's just how this one grows. I just got my plant as a cutting last fall and I already know I am going to like it. There are several different forms of this species available but the main difference is leaf shape and size.

Here's a picture of one of my waymaniae plants taken last year. I have several clones of this plant but like Mike said the only major differences in them is the leaves. All forms have dark green leaves which will turn a nice dark burgundy purple almost black in high light and on all clones the leaves are very hard and wavy with the exception of the round leaf form which has almost perfect round leaves and no wave to the edge.The leaves on the clone pictured look like an inverted spoon. In other words if you take a spoon and turn it upside down that's what the leaves look like.

this is the same plant from the above posted picture. You would never be able to guess by just looking at this photo but that particular plant is over 6ft in length. I find this a particularly easy hoya to grow,once you get it rooted. It is also a very reliable bloomer once established and the peduncles on hoya waymaniae can grow to be over 7 inches long! My plant is now about 3 years old.

David, that Hoya waymaniae is absolutely gorgeous! Do you have that in full sun to get the reds on almost all the leaves? Or is that a different clone that has more red leaves than others? It is stunning and huge!

Pug, this particular plant had been exposed to very bright light. In fact where it was located it probably even got a few hours of direct morning sun,thus bringing out those dark colors. I have found that when I bring it back into the gh during the winter and light is at a minimum due to so many plants being in there, the leaves tend to turn back to being solid green again.

That cat's name is lil bit. He's about 3 years old and is my gh cat. He loves to hang out in there with me while i'm working with the hoyas. He's a very affectionate kitty and loves to be held!

Yeah David...mine looks like yours...but, mine hasn't changed the colours at all...of course, mine remains indoors all year 'round. I'm not pleased with the crinkled leaves...would be a much more beautiful plant if the leaves were somewhat flat...the indentations make it appear in need of water! Mine has remained a nice reddish colour so far...I got mine from Thailand last August. There is a H. waymaniae with totally green, smallish, roundish leaves...it doesn't even look like it belongs in the same family! Do you happen to know the different names for the H. waymaniae?

Patrick all I can really tell you about the (3) waymaniaes that I have is this. The first came from Hawaii just labeled as hoya waymaniae,no clue as to if it has an IML # or not or where it originated. The second clone came from D.L. and is IML 1167 from Balikpapan kalimantan. The third clone that I have came from a trading partner of mine and it is the round leaf form having almost perfect round leaves with no crinkled edge and supposedly it blooms with yellow flowers instead of orange. Time will tell if that is so or not as I have not seen that clone bloom yet.

Tish, I can't honestly say that I am known as the local "crazy cat man" but I do love my cats just as much as I do my hoyas. I have 2 that are strictly indoors cats. Then there's lil bit who is an outdoor kinda guy and I also take care of and feed numerous others who have been dumped or abandoned in my neighborhood.

Patrick, its so funny how differently we feel about certain hoyas. I'm complete opposite of you...I LOVE the crinkly leaves on H. waymaniae, which is one of the reasons I love it so much,lol...Same as Caudata...I love that cardboard type leaves. I guess that's what makes the hoya world go round? I love the red coloring on this hoya, but I am partial to any plant that has reddish in the leaves for some reason. Patrick, I bet yours is just beautiful also!
Remember, if you don't like the crinkly(red) leaves you can always send it to me,lol...

When I first became interested in growing hoyas,it was strictly for the flowers. After about a year I fell in love with the foliage and that is now how I pick and choose which hoyas to add to my collection,the flowers are now just and extra bonus when they bloom!!

Pug, I gave lil bit that name because he was such a runt for so long. As a kitten he was just rather short legged and stumpy looking and I didn't think he'd ever fill out to be the size of an average cat. And even now he's still on the smallish size for a male cat. His head is smaller than a normal male cat as well. His mother was a smoky grey short hair with a very petite frame and he sort of took after her.

David...thanks so much for the information. My all-green one must be what you listed above as #3....round leaves and without any indentations. Puglvr...I like my waymaniae...it's just that it always looks like it's dying due to the irregularity of the leaves. I do like crinkled leaves...but, they look funny on waymaniae due to the colour and the venation....nice flat leaves would make waymaniae one of my favorites. David...one of my dogs is named lil' bit....though she's not so little anymore!! LOL Again, thanks so much! Patrick
