My Indian Paintbrush is taller than I am this year. (I'm 5'1-1/2 inches). I have to stand on tiptoes to take its
picture. Tetrina's Daughter is nearly that tall also.

Kay, when I looked up those two on Tinkers, they have IP as being only 28" and TD as 35". Wonder why yours are so tall?

Jan, I have a few Hansons that are nearly chest-high (which I really like), and Notify Ground Crew didn't bloom this year.

The only other tall one I've heard of is Scapes From Hell, but it's just 45" (a burgundy). Not sure that name would go with your angel-themed garden!

I know that Brian Mahieu has lots of tall intros, but most of his are relatively new intros and expensive. He does have some really pretty ones though.

You can get some of Brian's 2003 intros from David Burris at a reasonable price. I got two plus a bonus this year. Gudrid and Aniakchak are in the 40 inch range. The VERY tall ones seem to be more expensive and/or not available. I am waiting for Scandinavia to become available. Imagine a white spider that is 50+ inches tall.

Thanks Edward...I too, am looking for the very tall, 50 inches and over. Guess I'll just wait for some of his later intros to drop somewhat in price.

The renewed interest in talls is pretty recent and the hybridizers working toward that have had to go back to species crosses to regain the "tall" genes. Hence you'll see more yellows and a older forms.

In addition to Brian Mahieu's talls, here are a few more recently registered in "non-yellow" colors...

There are lots more. Some of the older Stout's are quite tall. Hamblin registered the most very tall daylilies but most of his seem to have been lost. The only one I've found still being grown in display gardens or possibly in commerce is 'Dreamlight' which is another yellow.

Have never posted before but this is a special topic because I also am interested in tall daylilies. A good source for tall daylilies is Jim Murphy at Woodhenge Gardens. They are not cheap but not outrageous either. I am interested in Daylily Eli Murphy that grows from 60 to 72 inches tall and is extremely vigorous.I have Corollas Light which gets about 54 inches tall and is gold with a red eye and grows great.
Edward I love Scandanavia also but I have been to David Burris Bluegrass Gardens where he grows the Mahieu and Mahieu-Burris and I tried to find outabout the availability of Scandanavia. He told me it grows slowly and the waiting list is extremely long. That is why it nevers shows it is available.

This year Fossil Record was the tallest thing in my garden...I'm 5'5"...some of the blooms were above eye level. It's starting to settle in, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it do better next year. Also, I should mention that I thought the scapes were pretty sturdy, too.

I'm liking the tall ones, too, as they give a great layered look...you can plant them in the back or in the center...

I saw a some tall seedlings in tour gardens, so maybe we will see more things in the future!

The tallest I have are Slipped My Disco and Rainbow Serpent. Both are 52 inches tall.

Venusian Heat by Gossard is a tall red.

I grow Volcan Fuego also. It was 54" tall in my garden this year with thick scapes. Has been blooming since early July and still going. A bud builder. Othe Mahieu's I have that are not expensive that are over 48 inch tall- Pack hunter, Royal Flycatcher,Violet Cockatoo,Swamp Apparition and Stratovolcano. These take a few years to take hold but once they do they are spectacular.

I have a bunch of oldies, Challenger, Statuesqe, Autumn Minarette, Red Sentinel, and Purity but they are all really old fashioned types. Purity and Statuesque are quite classic looking yellows tho all of mine look a little ratty because the clumps are ten years or more in the same place and some acorns I planted in 1981 have shaded the whole yard. THe trees are beyond cutting so I suppose I will have to move the daylillies.I have tried raising seed from these but the seedlings all have the droops and I end up stepping on the flowers. I did end up with a five foot tall, two inch flower on Challenger X Pardon Me if you like small flowers on chest high scapes!
