Sorry I don't say what is IS, but my H. Tsangii just finished blooming & was a smaller bloom, more red in color, a smaller cluster of buds, so I don't think it's Tsangii. Try checking out pix of H. davidcummingii (just a guess). Pretty whatever she is!!

I agree with Pirate Girl--that doesn't look like my tsangii bloom, either. Do you have pictures of the leaves, too? That would be helpful.

Yes, I agree with you as well. The leaves looks exactly like the tsangi that I purchased last year. However, the bloom on it was very red and had a nice smell to it. This one has a gold center with a more rust colored bloom, and there is no scent that I can detect. I will try to get a pic of the whole plant for you. Could it be bilobata?

I was recently swapped a cutting of H Davidcummingii & the leaves look quite similar to Tsangii, except seem to have a dark outline on the underside of the leaves. They also have a bit of yellow in the bloom, that's why I suggested it as a possibility, pls. try looking at it, maybe at one of the Swedish sites (like Hoyablad).

Pirate Girl - thanks for the suggestion. I do believe that I was the one who sent you the davidcummingi. I have looked at both plants and they are not the same. The davidcummingi leaves are smooth and hard whereas these are softer and more flexible. I really thought that this was just another Home Depot tsangi. It was so full that I just couldn't pass up buying it. It got a beautiful reddish tint to the leaves this summer. I will keep looking.

Maybe OKie Deb's around w/ some ideas? Also she knows a number of those Swedish sites, perhaps they'd come up from a prior thread, or maybe you were smarter than I & bookmarked them? (I just know Hoyablad, Hoyas Bilder & Rare Hoyas - Ted Green, maybe also Botanova?)

To me the weird thing about your flowers is that they look more "open" than tsangii's little button flowers. I don't know the technical terms, but yours looks like it has petal-thingies. Burtoniae leaves look almost identical (I still don't get if it's a form of tsangii or what), but supposedly that's not what the flower looks like, either. I never saw the flower since, sadly, I killed mine. But the leaves did look identical to tsangii though maybe a little smaller and more purple. Someone once said here that the true bilobata is very different from tsangii, but I don't remember why. :( Is yours an E. A.? Good luck with the mystery...!

Mare - I looked at it a couple days after I took the pic and now the petals have recessed all the way back so that it looks just like other tsangi/bilobata pics I've found online. I'm not sure which it is, or what the difference is. It was an EA plant from HD. Thanks for all your help!
