I think Shakespeare might have been dreamin' about a hosta garden--

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate:

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer's lease hath all too short a date:

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,

And often is his gold complexion dimmed,

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,

Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,

First year for this one. It will be interesting to see how it differs from Invincible. A fast growing plant that is very sun tolerant New in 2011. I received a wonderful big division from Sebright in Oregon This is Inniswood's tenth year. One of the very rare plants I put in the right place when I first got it and it's been there ever since.

Paul, I'm glad I ordered Merry Sunshine, very pretty. Karen, My Montana Aureo had about 3 leaves the size of your nice plant. It is 5 years old. I guess some of us just can't grow certain hostas. Blue Angel also hates me. Second Year. Received in a trade with Pieter. I'm anxious to see this one in the summer. It's started out really well. I actually do have a few plants other than hostas. This is the wavy sport that shows up on Blue Mouse Ears. I found this at a local nursery and named it before I heard that anyone else had.

'Stiletto'

'Sea Octopus' looks a little ratty here....but it shows how floriferous it is. It's a great seed producer, and I have some lovely seedlings from it.

This was a gift plant from Hosta Choice in Ontario. It really caught my attention this year when I finally moved it out to the sun.

Is this the way Sea Bunny is suppose to look? It's described as very corrugated, shiny and chartreuse yellow. This is it's third year and it seems none of those things. To the right is Patricia (very similar to Parkeys Prize in size).

This year Stetson became a very unique looking plant.

It doesn't look like the Library pictures. The vein count I get from your pic is about 7. Sea Bunny is supposed to have 8-10 vein pairs. Flowers of Sea Bunny are supposed to be white with faint lavender striping. I couldn't make out the flowers from your photo. Do you remember what they look like?

hostabuff, Stand by Me is a June sport. Heavy substance and heavy wax. Seems to be a good grower. Listed as s/m in size.

Paul-somewhere along my path of life I have lost my suede covered, gold gilded edge copy of Shakespeare. Is your beautiful quote from Midsummer Nights Dream? If not, where? Maybe it is time for me to check ebay for a new collection of Shakespeare.

Wouldn't H. 'Midsummer Nights Dream" be a beautiful name for a hosta, or am I just thinking it because it is already used?

I'm pretty sure it's a sonnet. 14 lines, iambic pentameter, rhyming couplet at the end, it's a sonnet.

I keep studying mctavish's pics to learn how to photograph hostas in a way that seems truly exceptional. What I really like is how she frames her subject. There is more here than just a hosta plant; it is a hosta in a beautiful garden, with companion plants carefully chosen, and a dash of color here and there. Take a look at Silk Kimono above. I wanted that plant as soon as I looked at this pic. Yet what grabs me, I think, is the pink astilbe, and - an added bonus - the little hands reaching out of the soil. McT's gardens are works of art. And so are her pics. I am in awe.

Thank you "other Steve" for you very sweet comments. I do see my gardens and photography as a creative outlet. The composition is fairly ingraned because I took a lot of commercial art classes in high school and college. Learning to use the camera and take advantage of lighting conditions and so on is recently learned through trial and error.
