I have a problem being that organized to get it into one place. From time to time I keep records of seed starting dates, etc but it's always on random pieces of notebook paper, post-it notes, etc. DH makes fun of me for putting post-its on my computer.

The computer is great to make lists of what various plants are in the garden (lists of roses with potential size) that helps me plan where to plant them. And I can always FIND that information unlike random pieces of paper in a big pile.

I admire people who have blogs WITH PHOTOS for Pete's sake. I take lots of photos but the upload thing makes me tired.

Currently I have several blank journals and several unfilled photo albums of all sizes and descriptions.

Long story short: the answer to your question is no :-)

I did not keep one in the past . Pooh - poohed the idea until recently .

My DIL gave me a beautiful journal and an eco-green pen for my birthday . I find entering garden info well worth the effort . As you thonotorose , I enjoy reading older entries and seeing progress . It's a great way to see when the last fertilization was or when did I plant something and what was it called ? Especially since the dogs tend to chew up my plant tags .

I am a convert and believer of journaling now that I tried it . Share this gift with a garden friend . They'll be really glad you did !

I started a garden journal about 2 years ago. It is an album with pictures and notes beside the pictures and has an index of sorts! I haven't been good this year about keeping it updated although I've made some notes "died in freezes of 2009".
I try to bring the journal to swaps so I can show pictures of what I've brought.

Yes, I've kept one for many years. They got fancier after I started taking drawing lessons. But Denise, you are just one step away from a great journal. Take your post-its, empty seed packets, plant tags, etc. and glue or tape them to the pages. Get one with spiral binding, they hold more add-ons. You can also find journals with pockets to stuff things in in case you get behind with the glue. At one point I even started indexing mine on the computer using Excel but I'm about a year and a half behind. Sometimes I just clutch my journal because it makes me feel good!

yes - started about 1999 when a neighbor gave me fabric covered blank book for my birthday. This year, I've had to move to a loose leaf binder because of articles cut from papers and magazines, photos, seed packets - etc. Mostly, I try to keep track of what I've been given, when and by whom. So far, I've not had a 'garden' worth many notations other than "- I thought the avacado died but it's growing again like mad." I've an idea we'll start a real blog when we make the long awaited move to the farm.

Another thing I love about mine, now, is that I have begun to write my PLANS in it.

I am cash challenged usually and therefore, a great fan of curbside shopping. I write down my future plans and ideas, etc. and things are showing up. I am in need of stuff for vertical gardening and just had a great item appear.

It is a wicker double headboard with damaged wicker. The frame is metal, arched at the top with a peak. I'm going to remove the wicker and attach is to a couple of PT posts.

Don't know where it is going to go, though.

have tried for many years but apparently too lazy lol. always get a laugh though when I look at old notes. Either I can't read my own writing or I used so many short forms it doesn't make any sense lol. I often have dates without years .
Since I'm always experimenting with different methods and have a terrible memory ,would make a lot o sense.
Wost of all are orchids ,Almost all are hybrids and I lose the tag within 30 minutes of purchase . Same is true of repotting ,dividing, fertilizing, low temps, water schedules . When many have four or five names to the hybrid memory won't work at all.
Have tried many time in the past but always get sidetracked . Oh well, too old to change now . Easy to remem ber NOIDS lol gary

I use one of those big calendars like 20" X 30", big enough that I haven't lost it. I buy it after the first of the year (and might loose a month of usage), or reuse the next year (don't forget to put the year in the notes section). It's big enough that I can draw a little diagram of where stuff went, the variety, and other stuff. Along the bottom, I have the FU recommended plants to be started that month.

I keep a photo book of all my orchids. I tagged each orchid with a number and took a picture when I first aquired it. Then I take another picture of the bloom and note the date and anything special about it. (scent, extra long spray of flowers, etc) It's fun to see how some of them bloom several times a year and how the flower color and size can sometimes change depending on my fertilizing (or or lack thereof).

Wow you're an organized gardener lol You must set aside specific times to bring your notes up to date??. I usually avoid taking pix of outstanding flowers . I find that if I do ,something will happen to the plant lol.
have also noted over the years that the only plants that will die are those that I keep notebooks on . Will guantee death within a year . Besides I like the surprises from forgetting ,Just recently had a red Catt flower and i don't remember ever buying one. gary

Yes, I have kept one since we started gardening at this house about 1.5 years ago. I just pulled it out about a month ago to plan the fall garden, and I read over the past entries last weekend and got a little depressed at the plants we lost to the freeze, I had written down when I planted them and I had to put in my "died in freeze" report. Other than that depressing factor it is really cool to see when things bloomed, took off or needed help over the last year. No pictures or anything fancy, just lists and diagrams of where things are placed in the veggie garden.
