I just wanted to let you know that your Porto Rican sweets are now officially (trying for) world dominating. I've been harvesting them since i got the first slips 18 months ago. Thank goodness I decided to plant them into my new high rise beds. They can't escape and I just dig what I need when I need it. The foliage stops right at the ground so the height is perfect, too. Otherwise I'd be very afraid for what little gardening space I have.
Check it out. I've become Mrs. Potato head. Don't laugh. This particular spud was larger than my head!

Hi Barbie!

You have some seriously big sweets! I am happy for you. For those garden posters that don't know you, you are prettier in person!
If you like potato latkes, you can make a similar recipe with the sweets, it is really good.

I am sooooooooooooooo excited. My husband laughs at me about this! I have talked about this for weeks and he get's a kick out of how excited I am to meet everyone and to see my garden mentor's garden. I'll try to bring a couple of chairs too, will leave in the car if needed. Sylvia, do you need any extra tables? I've got a couple 3 x 6 that are very light and I can bring those too. Bought the stuff for my pate' an am making some munchies as well.

Bridget, it is very nice from you to share the bounty of the garden with others instead of letting go to waste. Since they came with the house, I can see that if you don't need them you will want to plant something else that gives you more joy. It is a big job to take down trees, we had to take out two maples that came with the house. Since there were taking prime real state that I could use it in abetter way, they had to go... NC, it is so nice to hear from you! I hope that you are doing very well. We got some frost last night but today the garden looks good. The tomatoes ready to be planted soon The bananas are ripening The garden after the cold night Kathy, I didn't go to the hidden garden. I don't know if it still there. In the Audubon society they told me to go to the Botanical gardens, but it was far from the area where we were and we still had to do the famous "bar crawl" We hit every single famous bar and saw the shows. We were more tired than when we did Dunn's river in Jamaica,lol. Hi Violet, welcome to the forum! I hope that Tom and Luther come to advise you on the trellis ideas...I have cattle panel trellis for the beans and tomatoes, it is not the best but it works for me. Hi Tom, Happy Friday to you too. That is great news about the cucumbers! You are being very generous, but I think you have the list of the people that asked for seeds. I only need a packet or two. And I already have the saved seeds from the Table Dainty, and I think the seeds are fine, since it is the only squash growing in that spot. Actually, I don't have any more squash now in the area. The Oriental squash is in another part of the garden. I can send you tomorrow, and you can distribute as you see fit. vml68, I learned how to grow the plants but I don't pay attention to the names unless is an edible and I want to plant it again.:) Don't keep journals either, that reminds me that it used to come to the garden parties a gardener that had albums with the info on all her cuttings, now that is a labor of love! There were so many cuttings to plant that I cannot remember how long they took to grow, only if they became too big for my garden. A lot of plants are quick to re produce and like that bromeliad I had to make a circle for them to grow under the avocado tree. Here is a close up, maybe someone can identify the name for you... And more blooms with similar colors, hibiscus and morning glory. Silvia

Shavedmonkey, I eat sweet potatoes as soon as I pick them or later after they have been stored, any way they are good.

It depends on what I want. If I want chips or fries I eat them right away. If I want more sweetness I'll store it for a couple weeks. But, normally I am craving them and dig them only to eat them before they can cure properly.

Silvia... I won't tell you what that potato looks like. Are you sure it's a potato? ;-)

Thank you for the compliment. The photo shows my age I think. Sagging neck skin, wrinkles between my brows and great big smile lines. It's me, What can I say?

Rich thought I was crazy for hold the thing up to my face. Much less for posting it on the internet. LOL.

Barbie, I forgot the whole sweet potato in the ground and grew like a monster, nothing wrong with that, it was delicious! when I start from slips they look normal,lol
And don't complain about age, you are so young and pretty! and now that I look again, that sp is as big as your face! lol

Laurie, the sweets don't like high nitrogen fertilizer.
And yes we are all related plants wise. Look what I have in one of my beds.
