THANKS, everyone. Rita and CTC... The NOID was supposed to be something else and when it bloomed I was expecting a bright pink lily....but I actually like it a lot better than 'whats its name' that I've now forgotten the name of...LOL.
It has very soft, pastel coloring and I like the graceful form of it. Rita, you stay safe please! I worry about you and all of our friends in the path of the hurricane. CTC...I kind of have to do the same with my Mom (she has Alzheimers and I don't want to scare her)...so I'm going to set her room up in the basement. I don't know how I'll occupy her though if we lose power. She is legally blind
and her entertainment mostly comes from listening to the TV...for some reason she doesn't like the radio.
Mantis...thank you for refreshing my memory of the name of the red hibiscus. I had drawn a blank on the name. Yes, it is Lord Baltimore. David Austin lists 'Spirit of Freedom' as having 200 petals. I've never counted them, but I would say that is probably true. I have never seen a rose more petal-packed. Yes, that is rebloom. This rose is very good about putting out loads of late summer into fall blooms. It will bloom right til frost here. It wants to be a short climber, so I whack it back after the japanese beetles start around the 4th of July. It regrows and begins blooming in mid-August usually.
Judy, I thought you would like Incendiary since its got the purple coloring. I do have purple roses but the beetles pretty much ruined them and I'm waiting for rebloom...(I know you like purples). I will be back here as soon as I am able...I hope if we lose power that I don't go into forum withdrawal...LOL.

INCENDIARY is absolutely gorgeous again. I also like your top NOID. Too bad no one seems to have an idea what it is. I love those showy hibiscus, too. Are they really hardy in your zone? I used to see them lots when I grew up in Cali, but around here I thought all the ones that are big and showy like that were being grown as annuals or else sheltered in the winter somehow.

Oh Gee Whiz...hehehe!! I love the first noid. Very beautiful with the pastel blend. The second noid is almost definitly Sombrero Way. The roses are gorgeous and the daisy'd ( my favorite) are stunning!! Love the pines!!! Ellie

Hi Casey....Yes, these hibiscus are the hardy type and believe it or not, they survive my zone 4 winters fine. (I do mulch just to be sure). They are really slow to emerge in the spring, though, and most springs don't show signs of life til the end of May. Not many folks around here grow these and are always stopping to ask me about them....the sheer size of them really gets people's attention going down my road. I have to explain to them that they are quite different than traditional hibiscus, which are tropical and would never grow here. I am worried that these are going to get destroyed by the storm coming...they are quite tall and the stalks are very spindly to carry such huge flowers. I did stake them, but I doubt it will be enough. And those huge pines in my photo are hovering right over the border with the hibiscus and could easily drop some limbs.

Ellie, Yes, I am also pretty certain the second noid is Sombrero Way. That first NOID sure is a flirt & getting all the attention...LOL.

WOW, you still have some beautiful blooms.I love your first NOID daylily.Gorgeous.WoODSIDE RUBY is so pretty, too.Love INNER VISION, too.Its a good bloomer here.The roses are gorgeous.LOve GRAHAM THOMAS..Years ago,I tried growing these hardy Hibicus.I wanted the red ones,and I bought several at the nursery that was tagged RED, but when I planted them and they bloomed later, they were not any of them red.They were all pink.
The GAILLARDIA is very pretty, too.Them pine trees are very pretty,and they wont uproot in hard winds, but the tops can break out of them,and like you said,Limbs fall.I do hope you get NO damage to your gorgeous flowers,and you all stay safe,and hopefully not lose power.Its just alful hard to do without power.

Beautiful Daylilies and roses. Be safe in the storm and I hope your gorgeous garden comes through it with minimal damage believe it or not being in FL. I have gone through three hurricanes in the span of two months in 2004 and the plants came through just fine. Little Boy says to tell Fat Cat and friends to be safe.

Celeste, everything is so beautiful and I can't bear the thought of damage to your garden--however, the most important thing is that you and your family and pets are safe. The first picture of the NOID is truly wonderful. I think a bunch of us would love to have that one--we could give it the "found" name of Celestial Beauty in honor of you. Woodside Ruby is a pretty red, and I love all the pictures of the roses. Roses used to be our passion, and we were into the antiques and Austins for a long time. I used to go to the Antique Rose Emporium each fall for the Fall Festival, and it was a great event. Now, however, since we moved here, the roses have suffered. They are definitely not happy, and because of our age, we have decided to get rid of most of the non-performers. Even with Japanese beetles, yours are doing much better than ours ever did.
I do hope you will not suffer any damage from Irene, but you will probably lose power, that always seems to be the way of these storms. As soon as possible, let us know how you are doing. Avedon

Celeste, Was heading out when I posted that pic so wanted to comment on your photos. Wow! is about all I can say!They are gorgeous, ever last one of them! I have often wondered if I could grow Hibiscus here in a Canadian Zone 3a but have not yet tried. These pics are very encouraging though. :)

As for the storm, I know you will do everything humanly possible to keep your human and fur family safe from harm . The plants will have to ride it out on their own. They are healthy though and will have that on their side for regrowth anyway. Sending positive energy your way and to all the others in this trying time. :)

Your luck with the hibiscus mislabels reminds me of some of my earlier daylilies I bought from local nurseries. The tags said one thing and when they bloomed they were very different.
(Although so far I have actually enjoyed the NOIDS more than what I thought I bought...LOL).
Linda...Fat Cat seems to be in a feeding frenzy more than usual so perhaps he can sense the impending storm. I have heard of animals being able to tell a storm is coming, although in his case he could live off his fat for a couple weeks...haha.
Avedon...You are so precious...thanks! I actually need to get a daylily with 'celestial' in the name. I do have the old alba rose 'Celestial' (also known as 'Celeste'). I totally understand about having to downsize on the roses.
Previous to my daylily obsession I was obsessed with roses and accrued over 300. I was fanatical about them for years but now I've started eliminating the ones whose performance was minimal to make room for daylilies. I have bought many roses from The Antique Rose Emporium, but sadly, ownroot roses don't thrive here and many of them are now gone. I get so frustrated by the japanese beetles destroying all but the June blooms, and my cold winters are a challenge as well. I still love roses and will always have them in my garden but I am enjoying the ease of culture daylilies bring.
Thanks, Nat. I know there is nothing I can do if the limbs come down from those pines on my garden but I take comfort in the fact that its the end of the season rather than the beginning. We do have many more huge trees around the house which if they go down or drop limbs could ruin my roof, but the funny thing is, I'm more worried about my flowers...LOL.
Ginny Garden...If you do try to grow the hibiscus, just mulch them well and don't give up on them in the spring, thinking they've died...they just take forever to come up in the spring. This year they didn't show signs of life til the 4th of June and I was thinking they were toast. Most years its in May. Thank you for the positive thoughts!

Thanks Celeste, I will certainly remember your advice for the hibiscus. I think one of our local greenhouses carries a couple of cultivars. :)

On another note, I have a garden of Angels here so have many plants with Angel and Celestial names. Daylilies I have are Celestial Army, Celestial City, Celestial Peach, and am hoping to obtain Celestial Angel. Celestial Angel is a Jarvis '07 release. I also have Celestial Hosta. :)

(typing this with my left hand...I got stung all over my right hand while putting away lawn furniture to prepare for the storm. I didn't know wasps had made a home under a chair and now I can't move my hand it's so swollen...ugh).

Ouch! I know what that is like. Planting irises 2 years ago got stung 8 times!! I can't remember what the doctor told me to soak it in but I used calendula cream on the stings and that seemed to help greatly. Also Tiger Balm if you can get it. I use that #$%^& on everything!

That's so cute you have a memorial garden for your kitty. I have a bunny tree in the yard that Dad planted when I was 10 and my bunny died. I am looking at it right now as I type. I also have a Land called Honalee, a faerie garden, an easter garden, and a memorial garden for my mom and starting one for Dad. He's still with us but is 91 and has alzheimers. He's the one I got the green thumb from. :) I'm really big on themes and sentimental mushy stuff. I also have Virginia and Ginny DLs and am looking for Sweet Amy Lynn DL cause that is my daughter's name. Soon I am going to need a farm! :)

Thank you for asking about me. We lost power for awhile so I couldn't get online til now but wanted to let you all know I am fine. I have a lot of cleanup to do today with branches everywhere but luckily nothing major came down on my gardens. We got a tremendous amount of rain, and the positive of living on a mountain is that we don't have the flooding that others in low-lying areas got. It is terrible in neighboring Vermont and even parts of New Hampshire. Our states have so many streams and rivers and they can't handle that much rain in such a short time.
Glad to read that others here are okay as well.

Celeste, so glad that you are ok. I saw the flooding in Vermont and parts of NH on the news last night and got worried about you. I was thinking how unusual I thought it was for a hurricane to take that inland route and not stay on the coast.

Yea, Celeste, the good news is you and your family (and pets and gardens) are okay. The bad news is the cleanup. That is definitely a pain in the posterior. In 2008, Hurricane Ike came through here and left a mess. It took my husband 3 days to get everything picked up and disposed of. I was in Missouri with my Mother, and Ike even hit us. My Mom has a very small yard, but it took me a solid afternoon of work to get all of that debris up and ready for disposal. There were still limbs from neighbors' trees broken off and hanging over the fences onto her property, and she had wait for a couple of months to get those removed because there was so much damage in town, and only a few companies doing this work. So I feel for you, knowing you have a big job ahead. I'll be watching for your posts, letting us know how things are going. It's so good to have you back. Avedon

Glad to hear you made it through the storm. Watching the news and the amount of flooding is very sad and seeing the old covered bridge tumble into the river was heartbreaking.

On a happier note, I love the pic of your GRAHAM THOMAS rose. Wow, I'd love to get it. Did the JP's do alot of damage on your roses?

Your first NOID partially resembles a plant I have here which is SEA GOLD. Does your bloom more pink like this pic?
