What I'm interested in is specific research including time of application. All plants have a certain period in which they can be stimulated into late growth but for most that is in mid-summer. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to dis your observation just the way the link was written- it's frustrating when you really want to know how things work and you get mindless recipes. To tell you the truth, I don't keep adequate records and do a lot of my care by feel. I can tell when plants aren't going to respond with vegetative growth to an N application- they start to loose a few basil leaves and just have a "sleepy" look to me, but they can draw the N to the buds best at this time. It varies from season to season depending on weather. Disease issues in N. Carolina don't pertain much to my southern NY where blueberries have very few problems of any kind. I've never had to treat anything on blueberries over a couple decades on several, maybe a dozen different sites. For many plants you can get the same vegetative surge from a summer drought followed by a late mid-summer rain which will happen occassionally no matter what your fertilization program. Japanese plums are very prone to send out tender growth under these conditions but only the shoots themselves seem to get hurt. Once again- this is in NY conditions and is actually a rather limited anecdotal observation. It's the anecdotal observations that I follow this web site for.

Coralred, You will also see such differences in plant when they are planted in different areas... shade, pH, water, etc. I have purposely divided and planted different groups around my gardens and really seen the difference. For eaxmple, Neptune and Larissa. In some areas, Neptune is fuzzy grey, some areas more of a stone color, with more sun there was some light violet, and in one area there was a lot of violet, but smaller size. Larissa would be orange on the side of the house, bright green in the shade, and a darker green with light areas and hints of orange in the full dry sun. They really are amazing plants.... Some I recommend: Neptune, Larissa, Director Jacobs, Rubra Ash (huge), Gigantium, Bronce, Gay Jestor, Pacific Charm, .... There are so many more I could name Chris

We live the Seattle area in the PNW. And, even though we do not get extremely cold temps in the winter, it can stay in the 40's and 50's until May. It "normally" stays in the 30's during day and 20's at night during the winter Dec - Feb. In our last house we had whole house radiant heat and it was wonderful, however, this time we are on a tighter budget and do not want to put the $50k+ into the whole house radiant. But, I just want to be sure there is a way to keep the heat in the living space below 8' like the radiant did. Annie - So even though the geothermal would be wonderful, it's initial cost would be prohibitive for us at this time. Renovator8 - Yes, we are definitely going to talk to a HVAC person for the best system for the size and layout of our home. Also, I agree that the electric floor heating in the master bath is not a true heating system. I just want the bathroom to heat up quickly when I get up in the morning to get ready for work. We will probably have a separate zone for the master bath. (I think)

Years ago I did a 'bra fitting consultation'. Wasn't very useful. I've worn 36DD for years and have the grooves in my shoulders to prove it. I'm shrinking now though, and am 36D. Well, that's what my five-year-old ratty-looking Vanity Fair underwires say they are! LOL I haven't smoked for 35 years and never did smoke more than five a day. I use only Advair for the asthma. Seravent did absolutely zip for me when I tried it. My non-allergic asthma came on within a month after my mother died of leukemia -- along with sinus problems and a sensitivity to aspirin. (It's some noted doctor's triad of symptoms.) I had pneumonia for the first time Feb. 2009. Had a biopsy to look at some 'stuff' in one lung -- negative for cancer; it was just 'there'. I drink half coffee half milk in the a.m. and one cup of tea with sugar in the afternoon. I do eat chocolate, but only one or two small pieces in any day. MD had prescribed iron (Slow FE) when I complained that my hair seemed to be falling out at a faster rate. (The KT helped by explaining that could have been from the fever and drugs for the pneumonia.) He's told me to continue taking it. Anyway, these *whoops* episodes pre-date that. Blood work last week was normal. I guess all I can do right now is roll up my sleeves, loosen my bra and slap on the heart monitor. I sure hope medication would help -- not looking for a ninth surgery if I need a pacemaker. MGM had 'a bad heart'. She lived to 93, but it was mostly just surviving, not 'living'. I'm an 'only', as was my mother, so thre's scant 'family medical history'. You are all SO kind to reply with your experiences and kind words. Thank you!
