They are from temperate region: remote regions in the provinces of Hunan, Hupei and Jiangxi. It is said that these are hardy and they could be deciduous. The allowable zones are 5 through 10. In colder regions, the old leaves fall in winter. It tolerates shade. Seedlings take at least 5 years before first bloom. They bloom in May and the flowers are red. The fruits last for extended period from May to almost the spring of the second year. The redness of the fruits deepens over the entire period. The fruits put up a spectacular show - they are mistaken as flowers by most people. Although it has long been listed as interesting and endangered, it only receives attention rather recently.

Do not plant young resets in old groves affected by greening. The tendency for suckers that sprout after pruning to be infected with greening depends upon the diameter of the branches. Branches 10-19 mm in diameter grew no suckers. Among branches 20 mm in diameter or more, the smallest ones were most likely to produce infected suckers (86% for branches 20-29 mm, as compared with 29% for those that were 40-60 mm) (van Vuuren 1993). Roistacher (1996) cited a Chinese program for rehabilitation of citrus in Fujian Province in which cultural control played a major part. Windbreaks were established to protect plants from psyllid vectors (although the efficacy of barriers for protection from a persistently transmitted pathogen is questionable). Trees were examined regularly for citrus greening disease, and all infected trees were immediately removed and replaced with healthy trees from a certified citrus stock program at the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (Ke & Xu 1990). In another Chinese program, part of the control program involved hand-removal of summer flush in high density citrus plantings following rice cultivation (Aubert 1990b). Hello Bryoria, Saw from your other post youÂre new here. Welcome! Sorry if this was confusing. I was posting about some legislation in the USA. From a quick google search, IÂm glad to say the Canadian Species at Risk Act doesnÂt seem to be under attack. I really like the idea of alert emails as a way to helping people actually do something constructive about these issues in a pretty painless manner. As I was looking around to see what was happening with species protection in Canada, besides this site which discusses the Species at Risk Act http://www.speciesatrisk.gc.ca/default_e.cfm I saw that both the Canadian Sierra club http://www.sierraclub.ca and the Canadian Wilderness and Parks Society http://www.cpaws.org allow people to sign up to receive action alerts. I find IÂm much more likely to act based on something like this, than to actually sit down and write letters about causes IÂm concerned about. It just so happened that on Friday, Audubon sent out another request for action. I'm including a link with rather sketchy information below. It does however help people contact their congressmen on the issue. HereÂs a link with some sketchy information, but it allows people to contact congressmen about this. This quote is from the email they sent out which gives a bit more information: "We have just received word that the Senate Budget Committee has again thrown down the guantlet by including in a federal budget bill provisions that would allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. If this bill passes the Senate and is agreed to by the House, oil drilling rigs would be allowed to roll in to the pristine Arctic Refuge."
