New Daylilies Here and Coming

Hi All,

I got some new ones in the past week as well as an order for fall and a trade lined up. I got that clump of Tower of Babel I had mentined previously and split it in half and sent one half to my mother-inlaw. I also got a couple of unusual forms from local hybridizer Marie Stuart: Dancing with Deric and Acadia at Twilight. I ordered Moonlight Sail on the lily auction. It will be making it as far as my mother-inlaw's this fall and she will be sending it out in the spring. Finally, I have traded for Enduring Freedom and Yukon Spring. Yukon Spring will be my first daylily from Bryan Culver. It is a nice yellow with a high budcount (30+). The last of the new ones for late summer/early fall is Mary's Baby by Richard Norris. This was a gift from my mother-inlaw.

Not much blooming today. It seems to go back and forth between good days and slow days. I have bloom on a couple of Brian Mahieu's daylilies: Thorhalla and Gudrid. It is a sunny day today so I should be able to get some good pictures when I get home from work.

Congrats on your acquisition of Tower Of Babel. It's a wonderful DL. This year in our garden it produced a lot of sharks teeth, and so I took it's pollen to Dragon Fang. I can hardly wait to see what comes from that cross. You sure did get a bunch of good ones there!! Hope they all do well for you.

The daylilies in that bed are front row starting from right to left- SELLSTATION FRIENDSHIP (blooming) TWO JANES (pink blooming) FLAMBOYANT PROMISE (blooming) SELLSTATION CAMPFIRE (blooming but turned the other wa) SELLSTATION CARNIVAL (buds only in above pic) VICTORIANA (next in line taller no blooms there) GUAVA JELLY LAST CHANCE FOR ROMANCE Then there is a back row started from left to right- ALCHEMIST FINIAL DESTINATION IN HIS HANDS The plan was to have the two rows of daylilies but since I only had enough daylilies for the partial row in back, I filled in with tropical Milkweed (annual attracts butterflies) Then I had these grain amaranths (tall purple) that self seeded in an area of my veggie garden and as I started yanking them out, I decided to transplant some to in front of the shrubs there just to make it look nicer. Next spring I hope to get some more late blooming daylilies to finish up the second row. Plus I hope those ones I did put in there DO go to bloom late as that was the point of the whole thing! Closeup of Tropical Milkweed, host plant for Monarch Butterfly larva. I saw one of the Monarchs laying eggs on it as I was out there taking pictures today. Purple Grain Amaranth. Usually grown as decorative plant but the smaller birds do like to eat the seeds from the ripe seedheads later. A bigger view of that whole back of the garage area.

I did look at some of the fuitures pictures. No information given of course so you don't know much except what the flower looks like. I got news that my daylilies were shipped yesterday so they might be here by Friday. I am going to put AMAZING ARTISTRY up in that garden of late bloomers up behind the garage and putting Sweet Isabella and Autumn Reflection in the Terraces garden.

Cape Cod: Chatham Islands: If you have to choose one, I'd recommend Nantucket over Martha's Vinyard. There is a high speed ferry which only takes an hour but be sure to make reservations. The Vinyard is beautiful but very much like the rest of the Cape. Nantucket's historic district is truly like walking back through time - complete with cobblestone roads! Definitely worth googling to see if it's of interest to you. RI: Newport - Cliff Walk, Mansions, Thames St shops/restaurants, Inn at Castle Hill - fabulous (but pricey) waterfront dining/lodging or just enjoy a drink while sitting in their Adirondack chairs (weather permitting). Fantastic sunsets. CT: Mystic - downtown & Sea Port Waterford: Harkness State Park - beautiful, waterfront, mansion, popular with fishermen/family picnics. Greetings Edward---I'm glad you posted the picture of GUDRID.

I recieved a SMALL(VERY) fan as a bonus last year. It really is fairing well just too small to bloom this year. KOOL looking Bloom !!!

I'm still bidding on a few seedlings from WESTEND -- I have a few of T. MADDOX's Seedlings and intros ---real quality!!!!

Won TEMPTION EYES and LAKE OF FIRE last night,,,,,,, I have a feeling K. Emmerich's flowers will do really well here.

Mystical Rainbow incresses well in my garden and Islesworth does not. Islesworth also took a couple years before it bloomed.

Gudrid was a small fan bonus this spring and the scape can barely stand up. I expect it to be much better next year. I also expect the blooms to be darker from the other pictures I have seen.

VL X WV is very nice. I also like the delicate Lullaby Baby. Does it start the day as a very pale pink? Beautiful.

See His Glory was one of my first "fat" daylilies. My neighbors came over to see those bubbly edges when it bloomed its first year. None of us had ever seen such a thing in a daylily before. Everyone liked the edges including me. I will tell you that the first scape it had its first year produced about 1/2 doubles. Hasn't done that since, but it would be interesting to see if it will on any of your seedlings. {{gwi:915840}}
