Grandma's second set of photos

Mystical Warrior is giving me a lot of blooms even with the lack of rain.

{{gwi:904875}}Lovely Annabell Lee reminds me of my sweet mother-in-law. Her one baseball buddy would call her Annabell, even though her name was AnnaMae.

Ladies Beware is one of those 'look at me' kind of DLs. The blooms are large, but it is only around 22" tall.

Lavender Flight is new this season and in a pot. This is its second bloom.

This is my clump of Indian Giver. It should probably be divided. It was one of the first DLs I bought.

Now I am off to send my grandson a birthday card via e-mail for his 10th birthday. He and his sister will be here day after tomorrow. They are out-of-state so we do not get to see them as much as we would like, but we make up for lost time.

I have always heard to divide when you see a decrease in bloom. Is this correct? Beautiful lilies, especially Indian Giver.

I enjoyed looking at your photos! I can't say that I like those robber flies. I saw one with a Monarch cat one time. It had consumed half of it, and it flew off with the other half when it saw me (I think that's why it flew off with it anyway). Grrr! We try to save as many as we can, but we can only do so much. There are so many predators out there just watching and waiting for them. I also have trouble with wasps getting to my BST cats if I don't bring them in. A few years ago the last four "butterflies" to eclose were actually wasps. They had overwintered and I was really disappointed when those came out of the pupas instead of the Black Swallowtails. I think it was the very first year that I raised them. After that I have become more diligent at watching the host plants and bringing them in as soon as possibly, preferably in the egg stage. Cathy

Love this and thanks for sharing this.I have always love collecting old aprons.I love them.I have some aprons that our granny wore..She was a dear sweet "granny".Bless her little tiny body as she stood in front of the stove wearing her little red and white checked apron cooking those wonderful biscuits and other foods for her family.What great memories.I just love the words in the story above and those words "I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron" is all so true.Thanks again.

Thanks everyone! So, any suggestions for quilting colour that would match both the front and the back? I'm kind of stumped and going shopping tomorrow, lol. I was thinking either a dull-ish gold or a light grey? But neither seem to match both sides properly.

Replacing Grandma’s Double light Switch

Ah, the white wire is called a "traveler". It connects two "3-way switches" together to allow them both to control one light. See the Option #1 diagram; the traveler is the red wire. You can't use that DETA device using only the red wires you labeled because the DETA requires both the hot and common (aka neutral) wires. As shown in the Option #1 diagram, in America light switches control the hot (black) wires. Perhaps it is different where you are because you said that the red wires were labeled common. The black wires in the photo may be the hot wires. The green wires are the ground wires. I'm guessing that the DETA device expects the common wire to be attached to the "N" terminal; the live, hot wire to be attached to the "A" terminal; and the hot wires to the lights to be connected to the "A1" and "A2" terminals. However, this is the opposite of the way the lights appear to be controlled now. Also, the DETA device doesn't have a terminal for a traveler wire so it can't be used in a 3-way circuit. -- amateur

Love your photos, especially MW. IG seems to still be sending up lots of scapes and blooming well for you. Think I'd let it be and see how it does next season before dividing. The clump is gorgeous!!! :)

WOW - I love them all. That clump of Indian Giver is gorgeous! I just bought that a week or so ago - I hope mine looks that good one day.

Oh, I love that clump of Indian Giver. It looks like a blooming machine. It's going on my list! I have an Angelface rose that could use a bit more purple around it and that would definately fit the bill.

Did your mother-in-law live in the south? My name is Laurie Renee, but I have an aunt that used to call me Laura Bell. I always thought of that as a southern thing.

Great pics again Jane. Your Indian Giver looks fine.
There are several reason to divide a clump.
1, Overcrowded.
2. Desire to see it in more than one location
3. Preservation

Both me and my sister lost our Indian Giver over winter, even though it was a mild winter. We both wish that we had divided ours.

Thanks everyone. WE GOT SOME RAIN TODAY. Not a lot but every drop helps. I know some don't water, but I cannot let the foliage dry up if I can help it. The blooms are still coming. Our property has some springs but I know the DL roots don't go that deep. I am going to take a quick stroll in the garden and see what has survived the showers. The kiddos are getting in after lunchtime tomorrow so maybe I can squeeze some more photos in on the forum tonight.

Janepa..there must be something special to that name Anna Mae. You said that you had a sweet aunt by that name and my sweet and wonderful mother's name was Anna Mae. And yes she was from the south.

Hi Laurie and Wendy Anna Mae was my mother-in-law, but she was not from the South. We are from central PA. I really miss her. She liked flowers but as she got older she was not able to plant her spring flowers or care for them so that is what I did for her to honor her on Mother's Day. I know she would really like all the DLs here.
