Should catnip be staked?

Agggh! I'm so frustrated right now. I didn't realize that this big gigantic 'bush' of catnip I had growing (in a container) was all coming off of one somewhat thick central stalk. Well, I guess the weight of all those lush branches was finally too much for it and it just broke off right at the soil line. It was just starting to show little purple flowers too!!! Well, I didn't think anything that big would take root, so I went ahead and harvested it all and now have it hanging in my kitchen to dry.

All I have left now is two rather sad looking little branches coming up from the soil and I'm hoping it will take off again. So I know for next time, do I need to stake this plant at some point? Or should I prune or divide it somehow? I'm interested to hear what you all would recommend. Thanks!
