Cats don't like catnip?

Last time I tried to grow some catnip for my inside babies, the outside babies (we live in a rural area) destroyed it all. Recently I bought a plant labelled catnip at a nursery and planted it in a big container with chocolate mint and neither set of cats will touch it. It seems to actively repel the outdoor cats. This plant has smallish blue-green leaves and little light purple flowers. The leaves do have much more of a scent than I've ever noticed from catnip before. The scent isn't really minty, but sort of fresh and green. It's very pleasant to me, but the cats don't agree. Is it the influence of the mint that drives that cats away, or do I have the wrong catnip?
