Thanks for your replies. The plants are in a family room which is adjacent to the kitchen where there are sometimes fruits in the fruit bowl. However, the distance is at least ten or more feet. Yes, as someone asked before - this has been going on for years! I did ONCE get one of my plants to bloom. It was while it was outside for the summer where incidentally, it was watered often because it was in the path of the automatic sprinklers. It probably also got watered with 20-20-20 as my kids help me with those types of chores are are not particulary discerning. There are no smokers in the house and the kitchen is well ventilated with a powerful axhaust fan. In thinking about this some more, I feel that the watering and feeding may be the issue. I use an all purpose plant food at a diluted strength. Can someone recommend a proper fertilizer and how often to use it? It seems as though the plant has just enough energy to set buds, but not enough to mature them. Also, in reading other posts I'm beginning to think that some of the plants I have are not planted in the proper medium. As I said above, the ones I got from a neighbor are in something more like dirt rather than bark or moss. I will work on getting some pictures up this afternoon. Too much fertilizer is bad. Well its not really bad, but as mentioned above it maked it go into active growth mode and will actually abort flowers. When you fertilize it, which should be about once a month, make sure that its high in phosphorus which is the middle number out of the three bottom numbers you see on the bottle. A high first number will increase growth. Also the heat can do it sometimes too especially if its a dry or especially sunny heat which is why heat isnt as much of a problem on the coast. I would just keep it well watered. They need water just about every day during the summer, but can go a day or so without, but dry up fast even in large pots. Good luck

This is not uncommon with young plants. When you see people around here with beautiful blooming inflos on newly-rooted cuttings those cuttings were always taken from big, mature trees in Florida or Hawaii (usually) that had the makings of a good inflo growing in the tip before the cutting was ever taken. Don't worry about the weak one. The plant should grow more mature, especially with good Texas sun and heat, and give better inflos next year or maybe the year after when it gets some size. I'm looking at a cutting I rooted last spring, that's tripled in height in that time, that's putting out a surprise tiny inflo here in Austin. Looks like if I'm lucky there'll be one bud, lol.
