Is something wrong with my Luna?

I planted a luna hibiscus I bought from a store about 2 weeks ago, and everyday it is looking more and more drab. I water it and until now it seems to be doing nothing for it. The same day, I planted another luna about 5 feet from this one and I have not had to water that one since. (We've had a lot of rain) Could something be wrong with this other one? Disease? Should I take it back and get a new one this year before it's too late to get a nice one? What do you guys think?

Hey Matt,

I may have had the same problem. A month ago I planted a Luna and every day it looked more like it was going to die. The leaves would discolor, and the stem even turned red. I know that they LOVE lots of water so I just kept watering more and more and while the leaves aren't perfect, it's blooming now and is a show-stopper.
They seem to not like to be transplanted. I don't know why you're other Luna is doing better though.

I am thinking that I might just take it out tomorrow and take it back to the store. I went out today and half of it was almost completely dead and the other half looked better. I'll give it today and hopefully the other half will turn around and I'll be able to keep it... but if not, I think I'll take it back and get a new one so that it can establish itself before winter rolls around. Thanks for the info

Okay I will slow down on the fertiliser as I was only following the instructions on the bottle. Perhaps that is the reason. I water it once a week and it’s well draining soil so I don’t have an issue there, just the leaves are not as they were last summer. One of them has morphed into another leaf and I was getting paranoid. I love this plant to bits!

Probably thrips. Very unusual to see them on a Pep. I agree; quarantine it it. The treatment needs to be systemic, because they pupate deep in the soil. I use Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub at the rate of 1oz. per gal.

parts made in china now....that activity signals the end of the fridge's life is nearing. I was amazed when recently in an appliance store they said,,,even the expensive fridges get 10 yrs......12 or 13 yrs if lucky. if people can skip the ice maker water dispenser and get an appropriate size to be nearly full most of the time [ that holds the cold] then you can press the luck a little more. Mine will be 14 yrs this summer and I'm nervous . I havent had any problems or service calls but w supply probs I dont want to replace right now. I guess you are at the mercy of the management. I wonder if they have some in storage or get quick ship,you might ask, If its noisy and cycles all day long it is irritating. Tell them .they are obliged to have things in working order as part of your lease.

find and expose the root flare https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=root+flare&iax=images&ia=images and wild guess here.. stop fertilizing it.. it appears to favor growing leaves.. faster than it can thicken the trunk.. and the only reason for that.. would be excessive fert ... either before you got it.. or since you planted it.. trees rarely if ever need fert .. do a soil test.. if you suspect something is missing from your soil... but otherwise.. they are not children that need to be fed.. ken
