Poor deflated purples.

The orange is lovely, and I have noticed that the purples seem to have to "warm up" sometimes with silly excuses for blooms, so don't give up Christine. and enjoy those orange beauties.

Kay, are you saying that you think the purples will do better next year as far as sunfastness is concerned? They were planted in the spring of 2010. (So wass the orange one)

I am afraid that Cimarron Rose is not good in the north anyway. Are the morning blooms free from blotches? I was surprised today that a lot of things held up (after bright sun and ninety degrees) when I wouldn't have expected them, including Malaysian Monarch, Morning Mood, Sovereign Queen. On the other hand, Kansas City Kicker never holds well, and Jane Trimmer usually looks the worse for wear. Sometimes the pink evening colors, though faded, have a shimmering appeal. The real problem, I suppose, is those daylilies that look bad already at 11 a.m.

Mantis, yes the morning blooms are mostly very pretty, but things start to go downhill at about 10am for these flowers. I didn't spray for thrips at all and CIMARRON ROSE has been a little thrippy, but still very pretty in the morning. SILVER RINGS is stunning in the morning as is GSTQ, well, except today she was hiding her face all day.

Thanks for the comments about how yours hold up. I have MALAYSIAN MONARCH also and it is still settling in, so I will need to see how it does next year.

We've had so little rain, with high temps that many of mine are undersized this year and some darker ones limp by afternoon. I guess the good part is that some flowers seem to think they are in the south this year, so I will get to see some reblooms I usually don't as long as we get some rain. Trying to water some-but can't run the water bill too high!

I commented on another thread about how I didn't care for God Save The Queen at a daylily show I went to. I see she's no great shakes outside either. I'll go with Lady Lucille for sure........Maryl

At least two people entered CIMARRON ROSE in the NCDC ( National Capital Daylily Club) Show yesterday in the on scape and off scape display. I was doing classification before the show and then judging and we had the hardest time finding CIMARRON ROSE in the AHS Data base ( we had trouble spelling the first word but finally it popped up.) The two exhibits of Cimarron Rose were actually very nice blooms - I don't recall seeing that one before.
The picture of GOD SAVE THE QUEEN made me laugh. I would never take a picture of a bloom looking like that but quickly snap it off and put it out of its misery. I just quickly walk past blooms that are having a bad hair day. By the way, in 2008, the clump of GOD SAVE THE QUEEN looked so good in a National tour garden that it won the President's Cup! Maybe this is a daylily that performs better in the heat.

LOL about God Save the Queen, but Lady Lucille makes up for it.

Yes I am. A lot of the fancier and more elaborate ones take three years to settle. And I am waiting on my first bloom pon a couple. Pirate King did nothing for me the three seasons (first one probably doesn't count) and I was threatening to shovel prune it. Instead, I moved it and it was beautiful this year. (?The next year)

My purples seem to fade more quickly in the heat. too bad about GSTQ, I was considering it. Maybe not , but Lady Lucille is very nice.
