wcgypsy, to post photos, I use Photobucket. I upload my photos there. Then, I just click on the html coding, and it automatically copies that html code to the Windows clipboard. Then, in your message response, just right click and select "Paste", and all that coding just gets pasted right into your message. And your photo will appear. You can continue copying and pasting each photo's html code right into your message (I press Enter between each photo, so the coding has a line space between each html photo code). Really easy, actually! And thanks for all the suggestions. Trying to find the least labor-intensive project possible, since my huggy will not be overly pleased with a big construction project :-) So, I'm trying to find easy but sturdy alternatives. If I can swing the Sunglo, I may go that way. I am afraid the Harbor Freight greenhouse may be a bit too flimsy for our Santa Anas that can come charging down the canyons. If I can't afford the Sunglo, I'll probably go with the Snap & Grow. I think by the time I get all the extra doo dads for the Snap & Grow, it won't be all that much less expensive than the Sunglo, which is a very high quality greenhouse, up there with a Riga. Nikkie, You are listing trees (camellias are trees) and shrubs and then you say that the space is small. So, for plants(not shrubs or trees), daphne is nice, quite fragrant. Jasmine vines in particular Madison carolina jasmine, blooms all of April and May and sometimes into June, just cut it down good after it blooms. They raised Charleston's zone number to 9, so if you are looking online or in a local nursery, remember zone 9. You want something different, so mabey a trip to a local nursery in the spring will give you more of a selection. Also, to put in the front of a bed, try the new "Snow in summer" jasmine. I have it and planted it in my front bed and it grows pretty good. It has 3 color leaves and is extremely attractive planted next to a dark green plant. It is also evergreen, like the Madison jasmine. Look up online and see pics, it is gorgeous. Also, cannas come back here, so if you enjoy the tropical look of cannas, plant them and mulch well, they come back bigger the next year. Welcome to South Carolina!

A lot of the clumping bamboos (most, I believe), that are hardy in zones 7 and 8 are subtropical mountain species. Which means..., they are not as hardy to extreme cold or too extreme heat as that notorious running genus, Phyllostachys (you don't wanna go there!). F. rufa seems the most commonly available in the Mid Atlantic area. It is a nice species and does put up well with our hot nights (a potential issue with many of the mountain species). It has seen temps from 4F to 109 without any burning. It is not cheap, and you will not get a privacy wall overnight, but will, eventually, if it likes its positioning. Some shade from the hottest sun is definitely a big advantage. It is well-behaved and will not be invasive, but will form a dense grove. We have Fargesia rufa (Green Panda Bamboo). Started with little pots and every year would divide each plant to lengthen 'the wall'. Growing area gets morning sun and dappled midday. It is never watered nor fed.
