Just wanted to share some blooms from my garden this weekend. Hope you enjoy them!

Luna Hibiscus

Unknown cuphea [Anybody have a name for it?]

After three years of waiting the Lily of the Nile is FINALLY blooming. It was worth the wait and the hummers love it!

Hi, yourself, Katkin! The canna may be the one you gave me. I know I brought it up here with me when I moved. I get alot of comments from friends and neighbors when it is in bloom. A friend of mine who is an artist painted a watercolor of it and now I am trying to buy it from her! nova

Good afternoon Jay ~ What a beautiful iris. I just love the color. Am really partial to blues/purples in the gardens, although, I do have lots of pinks also. It's hard to believe iris grow in ponds. I hope you can find more pictures from your place. Seeing other's pictures is always so inspiring! DH thought of the name FlowerLady when I first got online as my handle. That's what he called me because I was always out in the gardens working in and among the flowers. :-) Have a great Sunday afternoon. We are getting some rain, LOTS of wind. Beth, I'm interested in your experience with Dark Desire as well. I also saw it was highly recommended on Roses Unlimited. I believe the owner has 5 of them in pots around the porch or deck. I found several at Lowe's the other day. I have a spot in the garden where a Rose of Sharon has been hanging on for dear life the past year or more. I'm debating replacing it with Dark Desire, a different rose or maybe another rose of sharon. Dark Desire seems it's classified as a hybrid tea one place and a grandiflora another. I haven't seen any pictures of the whole bush yet, and I don't have much experience growing roses other than floribundas or some shrub roses. Would you be kind enough to comment on your experience growing it? I'm curious about the height/growth habit of Dark Desire and whether it might make a good landscape rose with sufficient number of blooms. I've read that it is very healthy and fragrant. I don't cut roses, so that's not real important to me. Your Rainbow Sorbet and Eau Vive blooms are stunning.

So beautiful, Ashley! I did not know that Wedgewood is so pretty! Love its pink color. Is the Alnwick Castle rose the same as The Alnwick rose? They look so similar but yours is showing alot more petals than what I have seen on my Alnwick rose? Love Raspberry Twirl and Abraham Darby.

Signet, we see most of the veronica in the empty lot next to us. Luckily, it has not overrun the daylily beds. Star of Bethlehem is another story. It is everywhere and spreading fast. We hate it too. The other two major plant pests in our garden are asiatic day flower and nutsedge. If we could get rid of those two, most of our weed problem would be gone. Sherry, Riley is not always a good gardener. He forgets his manners when he is chasing the cat or a squirrel. He also digs, especially in the spring it seems. He has been guilty of digging up newly planted daylilies. But he really is a good dog. His house manners are perfect. Shedding is his only vice and he can't help that. Nancy

Oh my my my! Such fantastic color! i really love them all but that cuphea is to die for.And what are the morning Glories climbing on?

Goldenpond, The morning glories are climbing on a sheet of lattice. I had a bunch of cypress vine and morning glory seeds laying around so I threw them in the bed and added the lattice for them to climb. Here is what the whole thing looks like now-

I like the effect of the morning glories with the lacy vine of the cypress. I do have to watch out that they don't take over the Parlor Maple tho!

Beautiful, Nova! EVERYTHING!! The cuphea may be Twinkle Pink.

Now the thunbergia has me curious. It looks more like a vine in this photo than King's Mantel (thunbergia erecta). I'm wondering if it is thunbergia battiscombei, which is a vine, where King's Mantel is an erect shrub. Or is it just the way the photo looks? I love thunbergia and am always interested in seeing it grown successfully is why I'm asking.

I have had good success with the shrub, King's Mantel, but I had no luck at all with battiscombei, the vine. Yours looks lovely, whichever it is.

And the canna is to die for!

Marcia, My photo is thunbergia erecta. I have wanted to try my hand at T. battiscombei but I have read it can be difficult to grow successfully. The plant I have now was a cutting I took from my old garden before I moved. It is about a year and a half old and is currently blooming it's head off! Love it - love it - love it! Now if I can only find a Sky Vine! nova

Hi, Nova! Thanks for answering. It just had a viney look to it, and the leaves are much larger than mine...mine has smallish leaves, maybe only 3/4" long and not too wide. Perhaps there are different varieties of erecta, too. (There are several of alata, black-eyed Susan vine).

My battiscombei just flopped and sprawled and looked straggley and ugly. I finally pitched it out. But my Blue Sky Vine, t. grandiflora, was superb! Well, before I moved it, that is. It didn't recover well from being moved, but I had no choice. I planted it on the fence between my yard and my neighbor and it grew HUGE, but ALL of it was in my neighbor's yard. Like 20 feet of it! They were less than thrilled, and I had no blooms on MY side of the fence at all. So I cut it back and moved it, but it has been languishing ever since. I'm going to get a new, healthy one. They are just spectacular!

I forgot to mention how gorgeous that hibiscus is. Is that an annual one? It's fantastic!

Wow - that luna hibiscus couldn't be more red, could it? Stunning.

I really enjoyed seeing your garden at the plant swap.

I grow thunbergia battiscombei, and it does flop. It seems like it wants to be a groundcover instead of a climbing vine. I built a trellis for it and everything, and the darn thing would rather sprawl all over the ground. It's very pretty, though, and it's hardly without blooms. If I'm diligent, and I keep tieing it up to the trellis, it has the effect I was looking for. I do appreciate how it's a mannerly plant. It's a small vine that doesn't try to take over the neighborhood, unlike my Mexican Flame vine...

Anyway, your garden is looking lovely! The vines you have on the lattice look so cottagey!

Thanks everyone for the glowing comments! The "Luna" is a perennial and this is it's second season in the ground. It does set seeds and I got two "volunteers" that came true this year but I gave them to a friend this past weekend who was "blown away" by it's blooms. I will keep an eye out for more seeds this year so I can share them with my friends here. Thanks again for the compliments!

Nova, your garden is lovely. I love the red of the luna hibiscus. I loved the lily of the valley, it must smell heavenly too.
