Blooms from my yard, lets see yours.

My garden has started to come to life over the last few weeks. Here are a few hibiscus blooms from my garden, lets see some of your hibiscus blooms from your yard too!

This is enlightenment too, but in a different part of the yard, it gets a lot more shade, not quite as vibrant as a bloom, but still pretty.

Thanks Merkity, sorry to hear your garden is still recovering from the winter, we didn't get much of a winter this year at all in the desert southwest. Weird weather this year for sure.

Thank-you for the suggestions! After doing a bit of investigating, I believe our grass died off due to an insufficient amount of soil beneath (our yard is pretty much all clay, and it appears as though the previous owners laid down minimal, if any, soil before laying the sod, so it's not surprising our grass died off). My intent is to rip up all the dead sod and lay down some clean fill and start from scratch. It's not a matter of being easier to take care of, I just prefer more environmentally friendly alternatives to grass (sorry, not trying to be offensive here :) ). Also, the amount of water required to keep a south-facing lawn replenished in summer is remarkably high. Thus, incorporating some shade-providing trees will most likely be a must. Laperouse, I'm afraid I've traded all I had already, and I'm actually not growing them this time. I liked them fine, but I have so many new things that I want to a try, that I'm not doing many of the things I grew last year. One thing I AM doing is those gorgeous Profusion Apricot Zinnias. Carrie, it was your pictures last year that made me put that one on my must have list too. I may try to save some seeds and just see what happens next year. Maybe I'll buy one pack as a back-up. Laurel, I can just picture some candles sitting on the hearth of that fireplace, and you guys sitting around it in the evening with a cold glass of lemonade, admiring your gardens. That Maltese Cross is stunning. I'm WSing a shorter version of that this year. It's called Lychnis 'Lumina Bronzeleaf Red' which I got from Specialty Perennials (let's hope it was worth the wait, LOL!). Bonnie

Patty, it's almost as bad here, plus the awful deer infestation we have had since early September have made things worse. As of Dec, the only good looking blooms I have are on my two big Julia Child roses. Even the little baby Julia in back has a bud, though the deer stole the rest. All my other roses have quit blooming, or have frozen blooms. We will have lows in the teens in a few days, and that's got to finish off Julia. Diane Julia in December Evelyn in late November, eaten the day after this photo was taken Evelyn late November Augusta Luise in late November Boscobel in November Jude the Obscure in November Munstead Wood in November I think that's enough for now. Your first enlightenment is awesome! I was thinking sunfire but that one is more of splash pattern on it I think. All very nice. My hibiscus too are recovering from the winter only 2 survived and they were dead til nearly ground level. I have green leaves but still no blooms just yet!

and - i can't figure out how to post multiple photos on this forum...so here is my new rum runner, with a hitchhiker in its pot, i think its enlightenment ( oh well i already have that one) its does change color quite a bit as the day goes on.

Very nice merkity, to add multiple photos in a single post you will need to load your photos on to a host site like photobucket and then copy and paste the HTML link into the post and it will load as many photos as you want. Great hibiscus!
