lots of blooms and a new 'guest'. pic heavy

Well, I have been very busy, as you all are too. The local newspaper had featured my garden in a 1/2 page write up with a few pictures, and I have had lots of visitors ( the article did give some hours the garden would be open to visitors) guess lots of people decided to visit. I think there was only about 20 minutes last Saturday, that I did not have at least 4 people looking about. It was fun to meet new people and promote daylilies!!! I was surprised how some really didn't know much about daylilies beyond the ditch variety. I have 419 daylilies now, planted among other perennials. Several beds do feature the daylilies. AT any rate, I love this forum, and you are all wonderful enablers!!! I just have this weird thing that If I don't have the time to comment on others postings, I shouldn't post!!! OK that is probably really not necessay, so I will post and then see if I can play catch up! Here is a view of one area of the gardens.

I had a little guest pop in!! Don't know where he came from, must have dropped down from heaven!! Whiskey has become his foster parent. Here is the little one by the wooden bench. I have named him Babe.

He loves to play with Whiskey and the little one follows Whiskey around all day, sleeps with him, must think Whisk is his 'mother'. LOL

Like I needed another cat, but what can you do!! It breaks my heart to think he was all alone.

The blooms have been wonderful and many of my lates are just getting started. This is Jellyfish Jealousy, newly planted this summer. I love it!

This is Carnival in Brazil, which starts a little later for me.

Flying Carpet, a late bloomer.

The garden bench, where I eat my lunch!! And many visitors sat for a spell.

Lake Effect, blooming later and with many nice blooms, doesn't hold up in the heat so well.

Waves Become Wings, a late blooming Hanson.

Ed Brown, did well for me this year.

Cindy, I love to see your pictures of your garden, your daylilies and your kitties. I hope you continue to keep posting them. If you have time to comment on other postings, fine. If not don't get stressed about it. Life is busy and sometimes there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done! And with a big writeup in the paper and the garden tour, no wonder you have been too busy to catch up.

What a cute little new kitten you have. The little guy must have come to your garden because he saw the other kitties and wanted to have a home. The angels were watching over him when he found your garden.

You know I love all those garden shots. I keep going back and looking at them all. The garden really looks great. So pretty!

Some great blooms and I like them all. But I love Mama's Hot Chocolate. My favorite. What a strange color it is for a daylily.

As a kid, I used to stick my tongue under the flowers and drink the nectar. It was very sweet and I was fine. (But do this at your own risk, of course.) By the way, the poor thing grew in a small pot (the hoya, not my mom) in a horrible soil hard as a rock with all the nutrients sucked out of it long prior, never repotted, never fertilized, even watered highly irregularly - it felt like not for months! (although childhood memories are often exaggerated.) Yet it had one or two runners running literally around a big window and back, and flowered profusely every single year for many years. Diana, I love that gazania too. Not what i expected in color either. Just hope my others get a chance to bloom too. Highaltransplanter, even with the rabbits eating them every year, I'm a sucker for the flowers and have more seeds already for next year too. The candy lily is similar to the blackberry lily from what i've see on line but the blackbery lily is all one color of orange for all the petals. At least that is what I've seen in pics. Now, a friend did get some blackberry lily seeds from T&M last year and WS them. they where supposed to be all different colors of lavender, pink, orange, red and bloom the first year too. Well the seeds all germinated and the fans are growing nicely too. But, unless by some miracle they get a huge, huge growth spirt, they are not going to bloom this year. So I doubt I will know if these seeds will bloom different colors. I also have leopard lily seedlings and not sue if they will be different either. Bakemom and Barb, I just love the easter egg plant and the eggs really do look like real eggs hanging off the plant. That is until Sept. then they start to ripen and slowly turn a real bright, bright yellow, ironically the color of the yolk inside an egg. I will have tons of seeds for them in the fall for trade and SASBE, so watch for the post and we can trade or SASBE for the seeds if you want some. Fgirl21, missed seeing you and your daughter at the swap. Hope we see you this coming year. We really did have a very nice time and the weather turned out well for the rain date. Hope we see you this coming spring. Get that act in gear and those WS seeds ready to do too. Angie, the candy lily are well worth the wait, They are really pretty and very delicate looking. Just wish the blooms lasted more than one day. Wouldn't say that I'm well yet, but a far cry from what I was before the surgery, when I could barely walk without falling, and much better than I was a few weeks ago. Still have a long way to go yet, but every day is better and able to do more. By Sept. I will be able to get my perennials in the ground. Just lots of hard work at physical therapy to get there.

Hey Annie, Thank you for the compliments, just got done looking are your roses and I would have to say the same! I got the carnations at Lowes I think a few years ago. I love them! They are my birthday flower and I was so excited to find them as I didn't think they would do well down here but then again those places tend to buy things that don't do well for the area. Turns out they have done wonderfully. I do remember you telling me about your daughter living in Columbia and your someday visit down here which I am still looking forward to! :O) Yes, it is too bad she doesn't live closer as I would love to help her out. Mabe when you do end up coming to visit her we can all meet up at the zoo. Then you could come down to visit Charleston. I have a membership to Magnolia Garden and Plantation and I could show you around there and have a picnic there perhaps, I love it there. Maybe you could bring your daughter too and we could have a nice time. July and August are hot and humid though so be prepared. So far it really hasn't been too bad heat wise. We have actually had a nice long cool spring with a few hot days lately but not too bad. Looking forward to your visit! Congratulations grandma! ~Meghan

Your garden is totally and completely gorgeous! I can see why someone would want to write about it and why you've had so many visitors. Love your new kitty. He's adorable. I found 2 of mine on the street as strays. Even though I didn't need more pets I have a soft spot and couldn't bare not to keep them. Your daylilies are real beauties. My fave is Citrix.

Beautiful, beautiful---I just love looking at your garden, and I bet all your visitors loved it, too. The daylilies are fabulous--Hanson must be a Star Trek fan with the names of some of his daylilies. If I have a favorite, it's the garden shot with the blooming hosta, and of course the darling cats. I'm so glad Babe has found a safe home and will be well-cared for. Our 2 cats were strays, and we think we were lucky they found us. Avedon

I've actually read your blog and saw your garden and it looks fabulous. Love the new kitten in your life. I'm the same way. if a cat shows up and needs a place, well, we have plenty of space around here.
You know I love Hanson daylilies and the pics are wonderful.

Enjoy your garden. Isn't that what we all work so hard for ;-).

I don't always have time to post responses in a reasonably timely manner, but I always try to read thru when I get a chance. We all have different times when things are crazy.

I love the pathways in between the gardens but I'm pretty sure I can't get hubby to give up any more lawn. :) They look like nice peaceful little places to stop and enjoy

No wonder you had a lot of visitors, your garden is beautiful! I would love to have a tour, and with more than 400 daylilies especially ;) Yes, there are a lot of people that don't know a thing about daylily (I was one of them 4 years ago) :)
New kitten is adorable! My favorite picture is where he sits on a stone with his 'mother' Whiskey :)
Love all Hanson daylilies, so pretty! Love Carnival in Brazil and Autumn Wood too.

Your kitties are precious and your garden is beautiful. Must be nice to sit on that bench with your lunch enjoying the view that you created with all your hard work. Can't pick a favorite daylily. There are too many nice ones.

I can not pick a favorite daylily either.They are all beautiful,altho,I am partial to that chocolate colored one. and also CARNIVAL IN BRAZIL. Love your new kitty.Your gardens are so pretty.That wooden bench is just the right spot to sit and injoy the view.

I imagine you did have lots of garden visitors, it is a wonder you managed to get them to leave. Your garden looks great. I don't think I can pick a favorite daylily, they are all beautiful. I always love Citrix though, so may have to pick that. Mama's Hot Chocolate is growing on me too.
Whiskey seems to like his new fostering job, love the picture with the pair of them together. Adorable little baby. The cats I have chose me too.

Well, it is about time! I have really missed your postings, and Babe is adorable. Precious picture! No doubt you should have had many visitors as your garden is lovely. As always, I love the garden pics the most. I'd like to take that walk around your lovely setting.

As for favorite daylily? It won't be just one. I really like Borg Technology, Lake Effect, Carnival in Brazil, and Of course, Citrix.

My favorite picture is Whiskey and Babe together. And I think a cat can sometimes find a home where it will be appreciated. Several of them have found us, and I'm glad Babe found you with your big heart. Way to go!

Please keep posting, you are missed.

All of your blooms are gorgeous and so are your garden shots. So glad to see Whiskey taking care of Babe what a cute kitten I have six cats that were either adopted or wandered into my yard and never left.

Citrix and Borg Technology are my favorites and your whole garden is lovely. Isn't it amazing how many daylilies can fit in a garden without looking too crowded? I'm up to 297 and still have room for more!

Your kitties are lovely, too. It's funny that you just had a new one show up - we just acquired 2! They are both black and white and look like they might be related but they are not friendly with each other at all. One is a sweetheart and we have adopted her into the house (after a visit to the vet, of course!). The other won't have anything to do with us and looks vaguely inbred - we call him Banjo. We're still working on a name for the sweet girl.

Your garden looks really wonderful, so I'm sure your visitors were inspired by it. Babe is such a little cutie. He's lucky to have Whiskey and you to mother him. My favorites among the daylilies are Jellyfish Jelousy and Waves Become Wings.
