I think the Butterfly in Bobs photo is a "skipper", I think the one in mine is a pipe vine swallowtail. The flower is CHERRY CHEEKS. I have more somewhere, but I have to find them, and not all of them are on Daylilys.

I have a hoard of lizards that keep the insects at a very stable level in my yard. Usually they stay pretty well out of sight, but this one seemed to like basking in the sun. The flower is Lori Goldston.

No, it's not a butterfly. I think it's a moth called a Desmia. I looked up Desmias; there are several species, including the Grape Leaffholder Moth (Desmia funeralis sp), which is what I think you've photographed, Bob.

I love the critter pics. Bob, that moth or butterfly you had followng you is quite unique. I've sure never seen one like it. Here's a photo of a katydid who decided she really liked BLUE-EYED BUTTERFLY last year. She stayed on the blooms for three days last summer and was quite territorial.

oh my these photos are fantastic.I hardly ever see a Butterfly here,and when i do they don't stay around long enough for me to get my camera and take a picture.

I like the lizard pic, im surprised that the flower was strong enough to hold a lizard, but I guess they are pretty small. I have seen pics with little tree frogs tucked in the throat and they are cute. All I have are bug pics

The flower is a seedling of mine, tet. I posted this picture on a butterfly forum and it was immediately identified as an '8-spotted forrester moth. It thrives on Joe Pye Weed and Virginia Creeper. I have VC everywhere, so that makes sense. Bob

Well I guess that explains the white business near the eyes! I couldn't find a single photo of any Desmia moth with those markings....so I pretended they weren't there.:)))

Here's a grasshopper.

We have tons of baby praying mantis in our garden, I think they are cute, but they are quick little buggers! I don't know how you got that shot without it jumping off the bud and hiding! Nice pic! -Jessica

That's a great shot of the praying mantis and I really like the bee on the asters too! It's hard to get photos where the bugs are looking at you.

I have been trying to get a photo of one of these for years. I had one shot, its wings never stopped moving. I did crop the photo.

John, that's an amazing photo! Around here, they call them "humming moths," but I don't know the real name. The first time I saw one it scared the pants off me.
