A Few Photos From Yesterday

Just sharing a couple of things in my yard. Overall, my garden reached its peak in May and is now going downhill again, as I can't stand to be out in this heat longer than ten minutes or so at a time. But I still have some things blooming and looking pretty, here and there.

My Sanibel Island orchid (I've had it for more than 30 years). It's something tampensis, I think.

A coleus I'm not sure of...perhaps Atlas?

I love this green speckled one, too. Anyone recognize it?

And another NOID...this is one of the sturdiest, brightest, and most sunloving of any I've grown. I get it every year from local garden centers, but I have no idea what it is. Anybody recognize it?

And there you have it. Weeds are starting to take control again, and I never even GOT to the side beds this spring. But I did the best I could with my three big beds, and I'm sorry I can't be out there right now to keep them tidy.

Beautiful Marcia! I love the orchid!! I was going to start a new post but since I see you here and know how you love critters, here's some busy bees and butterflies keeping my gardens active.

Wow! Gulf frits here, gulf frits there, here a gulf, there a gulf, everywhere a gulf-gulf!

Pretty cool, Cindee!!

Love it!

And here's one I meant to post above and forgot. I just happened to catch a green sweat bee on the coneflower, and it was being chased around by another type of little bee. They were very busy playing King of the Hill on the center of the bloom.

Prince Of Midnight is a stunner with that dark coloring and the almost white watermark. And I just love, love Bold Symphony too. That pink color is great and I think the midribs just fancy it up even more. Its warm today here too, much more so than lately. Still not as bad as some parts of the country. Guess its really summer so I shouldn't complain.

Renee, always beautiful! I wanted to ask you about your path. My fieldstone path when I inherited it was only 3 feet wide because the rest of its 6 feet width was covered by grass, irises, and neglect. One path was completely invisible and I didn't even know it was there until I began weeding after our purchase and kept finding more rocks. I was very motivated to grow a beautiful ground cover between the rocks, but I am finding out that grass continues to pop up EVERYWHERE. I'm assuming it is because there are still healthy grass roots underneath the stones that continue to send up shoots despite weeding and Round Up. So, what's the secret to getting grass and weeks out of the places where your ground cover is growing? I can keep dirt between the paths through just weeding, but it's the ground cover that challenges me!

Thanks everyone, I really do like the NOID. I have no tag with it & nothing that approaches the description. Seems like I faintly remember getting a noid from someone, so that is probably it. I don't know why I didn't put a tag with it. There may be a label buried with it, but I don't want to dig it for a while. That it reblooms really makes it a great one. Gray kitty is getting a bit more confident all the time. He is always watchful & jumps at the least noise. I like to sit by the pond for a little while in the morning & afternoon, & he sits on the bench beside me. He is gradually working his way into my lap the last few days, first just putting the front legs on me, then just the last couple of days sitting on my lap. He acts rather awkward about it like he hasn't done it before :) Maybe he just feels it isn't "manly". Roady takes that pretty well, but he hates the cat to follow me around the yard-that is his job. Poor Roady hasn't a bit of muscle to him & doesn't weigh a lot, but the tabby is bigger & very muscular, probably a lot bigger. So far he runs from Roady & backs down from the fights, but I think he is figuring it out. Hope it doesn't work out to a real fight.

Hi, Felix! Glad you enjoyed them. Mostly, those are things on the patio. My yard is declining again, I'm afraid. I think it peaked in May, and now that it is too hot out there for me, it's going downhill rapidly. Hopefully, I'll be able to garden in the fall again when it cools off. Unlike last year, when I was taking care of my mother.

Haven't been to WalMart lately, GP, but it might be one of the Kong coleus. That whole series gets HUGE leaves. Very colorful and fun to grow. They are an annual coleus that prefers shade, btw. I had some last year, but didn't get any this year.
