I got RAIN today,alittle anyway.

We are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11PM so we might get some more rain,later.We sure need it.The ground is like cement.

I took a couple pictures a couple days ago,so thought I would post them first, then a couple I took while it was raining this morning,just for fun.

Rita,These was took with the new camera.

This one was took from about 15 feet away.Didn't want to go out in the rain with the camera,so I stayed on the porch and shot it,and didn't think it would come out this good.Not saying its a perfect shot,but not bad from such a distance.

and a couple more shots thats not blooms.I was having fun with the zoom lens,and these little birds are soo fast.

It was raining pretty hard while trying to take these pictures of the Hummingbirds and of Hearts of Fire.Good thing those blooms has such a huge thick scape.A few days ago we had a little storm came through with 60mph winds and the scapes was swaying back and forth,but didn't break.

Hope you injoy my photos.Not many blooms left now.I counted 6 more buds up under these blooms on Hearts of Fire,and a couple more on Condilla,and thats all of them,unless I get some more rebloom scapes.So, come on you northern folks and post lots of photos for us ,thats run out of blooms.

I know you needed the rain. You are doing well with the new camera and you still have afew daylilies, hurray! The little hummers are cute. I stick to taking pictures of flowers, never tried anything fast moving like hummers or regular birds even.

Rain? What's that?
It's 101 here for the fourth day in a row, no break in sight. No AC in the house. Daylilies are fried, right at the peak of bloom.

This year I'll only buy extra earlies.

That photo looks oh so familiar for me. Happens every year. Every time it happens, I am out in the middle of it packing dirt in a mound around the bases of each plant too. This year, it happened & I did the mound thing after a hard rain. It didn`t rain again for several days & was good & hot to dry out the mound work I had done to each plant. For the most part, I didn`t have to do it again after that episode for the rest of the season. That really made me happy. Was a first.

I actually enjoy these warm spring/summer rains...the grass can surely use it when the heat arrives. Heat....I'm wondering if the weatherman has been playing jokes on us. We're supposed to get furnace type summer with above average temperatures....and not so much rain. Lately its been just the opposite....cool days and cooler nights with rain every 2nd or 3rd day. But it sure does make the grass grow and mowing has to be with the bag cuz I cant keep up with the clippings. It goes into where it will do some good later on..the 3 compost bins. Every time it rains though, I cant help feel for the people in the midwest. It sure is a wake-up call for anyone wondering what a flood plain is.

We lived all over, except San Berdoo. Mojave was one place though. You're right, total varied year to year. Your rainless year was very recent, I see. Texas should be MUCH more rain-friendly for you, the farther east and south you go. Unless the climate's changing as we speak, and Texas is drying out all over...that worries me. What I remember for keeping cool out Mojave way, before every house had air conditioning, were the swamp coolers. I've heard that all the encroaching civilization has actually affected local climate. I've heard the typical humidity has risen to where the coolers don't work so well in that part of the country anymore. But I don't know for sure. In early 2001, I was out in the Lancaster area again for a brief visit. It felt as dry as ever. But that of course was the cool season. I guess I lived in the desert long enough to be the way I am, like I said. You'll NEVER hear me complain about too much rain, and I hardly ever complain about heat. I just can't stand a TOTAL lack of water. And it took a mild heat stroke, after moving back down Texas way, to learn to be more careful about heat+humidity!

Your long distance picture of Hearts of Fire came out great. Love the pictures of the hummers. I saw the first one ever in my yard a couple of days ago.

The rain sure helps, doesn't it?

I love the hummingbird photos. When I spot them here, I never have the camera handy to take any pictures.

Rita, Thank you, we really need the rain here.The storm that blew through a few days ago didn't hardly wet the ground.The rain today done a little better, but we got nothing they were saying was on the way.We just got a sprinkle,and maybe 20mph winds.
RENEE: Rain is Liquid gold,whenever you lucky enough to get some :)We had several days here that was 101 also,heat index of 114.

CHRIS: Yes, the rain Does help when we can get some.We didn't get near enough, but every little bit helps and I am sure the DL"s loved it.

Jean, Glad you got rain, the hummingbirds are so cool. I've tried to take pics of them, it's just so hard to do. Your pictures of the birds are great. Hey, how is your wrist anyway,?? just wondering.

CINDY; Thank you for asking about my wrist.Its been hurting so bad lately,I have been wearing a wrist support on it.The Dr, told me it would hurt for a few months, but,I really didn't think it would hurt this much, not now,since them pins and rod are out of it now.Where t hem pins was through my arm and hand,into the bones,hurts and sends stabbing pains in my hand and arm.The wrist support helps some.I just hope this pain is not going to be a permanent thing.
I kept trying hard to get a picture of them birds in flight.Some times they just stay in one place,mid air,looking at you, but fly away before you can get their picture.I like watching them.They fight over the feeders.

Several very nice pictures! Nice to be able to get good photos of your blooms at a distance if you need to, and your hummer pics are great. Hope your wrist continues to improve...been there..not quite that bad, but bad enough to hurt for a long time and require a wrist brace for quite a while. It did eventually stop aching, but like the "old folks" say, I can tell when a storm is coming from the ache in my bones!

Glad you got some rain! We've had one brief shower that managed to wet the ground in the past 122 days. I sure would like a break from watering, watering, watering.....

We were pretty dry here until the last few days when rain finally arrived to wet things down good. Just south of us they were getting rain by the bucket load but it always seemed to bypass our place. Glad to hear that you got some rain there.

Your pictures look great.....I really love the hummers. They are so cute. I don't think I could get a good picture of ours. They are always darting around so quickly.

Julie; I know all about them aches before the storms.I am already there (old folks) at 77 yrs old.I have Arthuritis pretty bad in my back and hip joints and pain 24/7 and it does get alot worse when the rainy season comes around.For me,the humidity is bad for me, too...Today,I worked all afternoon in the house,vacumming,then shampooed carpets, then mopped kitchen floor,plus a few other little things,so tomorrow,i will be lucky if I can stand up and walk around without triple pain.
NANCY. I too have been watering and watering dayly.Didn't water today, but tomorrow will start it again,because we didn't get very much rain.

Jean: Your pic of the hummer reminds me how each time I try to get a pic here they never appear. Once I put the camera inside, they are back. I've also learned when working in the garden not to swat at the buzzing sound around my head. I use to think it was the bees. Hummers must like my hat.
