Here's my list of melons. Will they grow here?

I've never grown melons before. However, I have gardened for years.

I purchased what I believe to be all Open Pollinated types. They are Charantais, Jaune Canari, Ananas, Haogen Israeli, and Banana. (Forgive spelling, the seed packets are where my wife is sleeping right now!) Are these gonna do well here?

Our summers are really hot and the humidity is very high. My plan was to plant the melons around the perimeter of the slab of my former neighbor's house, letting the vines cover the concrete. Katrina knocked the house part down.

While searching here for melon help, I read that the root system of melons was as spread-out as the plant itself. Would the plant produce enough roots along the edge of the slab to compensate for the lack of water and food under the slab?

The soil is sandy with tons of compost added.

If there are any tips specific to my melons please share them with me. Or, for that matter, any general tips on melon-growing, fire-away!

Charentais will be a hit or miss for production. It makes a crop about one year in 3 for me. We are too hot for them to do very well.

Be careful of getting too much nitrogen in the soil. Melons thrive with lots of humus and moderate amounts of nitrogen.

You should be able to grow just about any type of melon in your location. Just give the roots plenty of room to roam. A four footwide tilled strip adjacent to the concrete should do it. With the exception of the Haogen, none of your listed cultivars are overly productive. The Banana you will either love or hate. The Spanish melons Ananas and Canari have very long seasons which you have. They respond negatively to excess water, so make sure your area is well drained.

Autumn Damask has some vicious thorns. I was disappointed with the original WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE and ended up shovel pruning it. WS2000 is a better rose = better repeat, better flower form, and better growth habit. If I were you I'd cancel WS and then either wait until Chamblees offers WS2000 own root or order it grafted directly from David Austin Roses Limited. Alba Felicite Parmentier and Ispahan don't repeat bloom. Enough said. Adam has no fragrance. None-zip-zada. It is also monster big. Replace it with another apricot Tea or a Tea-Noisette. If you want big then Reve d'Or, William Allen Richardson, or Buff Beauty would be good alternatives. Why no DUCHESSE DE BRABANT? She is a must have Tea rose. And the fragrance! Oh-la-la is it strong. And where pray tell is REINE DES VIOLETTES. Have I taught you nothing? Another suggestion. I've become very fond of BELINDA'S DREAM this year. I planted her at my mom's and MIL's homes. One of the healthiest roses that I've ever seen. Very good for a beginner. Fantastic flower form and clear pink color is very pretty. Lasts a long time in a vase too. CONSTANT repeat bloom. The light fragrance is nothing to rave about but at least it is definite and detectable under most atmospheric conditions. Lastly, WHERE IS M-O-L-I-N-E-U-X?

What are your most profitable crops, based on area? Do you find any particular time of the year more profitable? I would guess spring and fall...perhaps I am wrong. I realized that without using significant amounts of heat and lighting, I can extend my zone 2 growing season to nine months (when including hardy crops). That is still longer than the outdoor 5-6 months used here, and any out of season produce is typically very expensive due to the use of heated greenhouses. Peppers at $8/lb even in June...
