Wow Debra! For being down to the end of your blooms, you sure do still have a lot to drool over!

Bewitching Eyes is my favorite of the group because of it's vibrant colors, but Freudian Slip comes in a close second. I really like your raised beds too...brings all of that color up to eye level! Pentas is a great companion plant for daylilies...I never would have thought of that, but if it is large enough, it grows agressively and my slugs would leave it alone. Will have to try that next year!

Debra, Those are really nice, and what great raised beds. Wondering if you put anything behind the castle brick, the one that is 3 high, like newspaper or landscape fabric. Or isn't it necessary. They are super. and I love your spiders.

Wow....just love that pic of BEWITCHING EYES. Mine hasn't bloomed this year and I don't think it will either. Sure do hope it looks like your pic when it blooms next year.

Hey, I like your new beds out in the sun in the lawn. Can't quite figgure out why the newer one is raised that much but they look good both ways. Don't you have more sun now with those branches that came down from your neightbors trees this spring?

I could pick afew for favorites but think I will go with RUBY LIPSTICK. Its such a pretty one.

Cindy and Rita - I have killed off the grass, etc. in that location three times in the last 14 months. I was originally going to plant in the ground, but I discovered there was nothing but rocks two inches down under the top soil. It was the same story on my first raised bed. In that one, I lost about a fourth of the plants over the winter because the bed on top of rock was not draining well at one end. My solution for the new raised bed was to raise it ever higher, and put in a couple of drains. I don't want to lose any more plants in a raised bed. For the old raised bed, I planted new plants higher and with more perlite. I also put only dormants at the low end, since those seem to deal with wet conditions better than daylilies with no dormancy in them.

I do have more sun on the other side of the yard in one of my older beds. But there are three other trees that have really messed up my borders on that side. Eventually, I will need to move about 25 daylilies from there to sunnier places. And, I have about 70 in pots that need to go in the ground. I'm working on a large circle bed now where I had a large tree removed two years ago. It's taken this long for the roots to rot enough so I can plant. Some of the shady residents are moving to the sunny circle.

Every time I see Adamas, I drool. It's so lovely. My next favorite would be Ruby Lipstick.

Really like Ruby Liptick and it looks great with the blue in the background. Your raised beds seem like such a nice managable size. I'd love to be able to get to all my daylilies without risking breaking off scapes.

Debra, I fell in love with BE. She is a beauty and very bewitching. Your beds looked really good last week .it's to bad they don't bloom longer there and here to, of course. I would like another month of good blooms but if I had that much blooming, there's no way I would leave for a week or two as I plan. I will have some new blooms while I'm away. Jungi is going to bloom and I won't be here for the first bloom. It's probably a rebloom scape but who cares if you get to see them for the first time. I hope to still have buds though, when I return. World Traveler is really pretty as is Eye On A String..( who thinks up these names?) My OC is blooming now too! A pretty late one for me. Does RUBY LIPSTICK ever not bloom perfectly? EYE ON A STRING is also very appealing.

Your raised beds have given me some good ideas for problem areas in my yard. The soil is too sandy and rocky in one area and has been taken over by nut grass. I'm thinking this might be the solution. Is that cardboard under the second raised bed? I'll need to put down something to kill the nutgrass, and cardboard might do the trick if there's enough soil on top of it.

Vickie - I would highly recommend Adamas. It blooms like crazy and multiplies very fast.

Val - I purposed didn't make them too wide so I could reach the blooms without breaking off buds or scapes.

Ellie - I'm glad you liked Bewitching Eyes. It was an impulse bid on the Lily Auction. The opening price was so low I couldn't resist, and no one else bid on it. I really liked the first bloom and I hope it will continue to have similar blooms even when it's hotter.

Chris - I think Ruby Lipstick has only had one bad bloom in five weeks. The blooms are always fully opened and perfect when I go outside at about 6:30 a.m. Yes, that is cardboard under the raised bed. It's all those Priority Mail boxes that my new daylilies were shipped in, plus a couple more boxes.

Debra, your daylilies really seem to like the raised beds. It really makes them stand out. I have never seen Bewitching Eyes before. That is a really nice one. I think that one, Moonlight Sail and Adamas are my favorites out of this group. I have no blooms here right now. We have been having an extremely dry summer here this year. Some of my daylilies haven't bloomed at all. Hopefully next year they will make up for it.

Thanks, Jean! WORLD TRAVELER is so perfectly big and round, it reminds me of a dinner plate. I like that it opened early and flat despite the cool night temps. I think it will be even more ruffly when temps are warmer.

BEWITCHING EYES and SWEET CHILD OF MINE are just outrageous!! Love them both. FREUDIAN SLIP is another I sure like alot. I am getting NICK OF TIME in the fall... and maybe someday I'll add FREUDIAN SLIP next to it!

In the Desperada Love shot,What is the red blooming. Looks like a Salvia.All the Lilys are great.Patricia

Basketcase - Those are red pentas blooming with Desperado Love. I have them in a raised bed where they look great with Desperado Love, El Desperado, Autumn Jewels and Ruby Lipstick. They keep blooming after the daylilies are done and attract butterflies and hummingbirds. They also don't need to be watered everyday, like so many annuals do.
