boday, I had heard similarly re P. Polymorpha. So I planted one a couple of seasons ago in a less than sunny location. It has done just okay. But in fact if it did very really well it might actually be too large for the spot! They can grow huge. ----------------------------- I have a polymorpha that started out as - "I wonder if it'll grow here"? to "I wonder if it'll work as a focal point for the whole yard". - (Big yard). So, I can chop some rooted branch and experiment. Trying to establish sight lines, distance and close ups is a big challenge. Astrantia Roma looks great close up, thirty feet away is just a pinkish blob. Five plants disappear.

Albas do better in full sun. They will tolerate some shade as some once bloomers do and many albas get quite big. Often they get put into the back of the garden with less than pefect conditions where they seem to hold their own. If they had full sun they would bloom more and do better. We have Armide, M. Plant-it-here (I think it is an Alba JMHO), and Alba Maxima in full sun and GMB, Alba Semi-plena, and Félicité Parmentier in semi (OK) nasty shade. They do get some sun dappled in the day and then full sun in the evenings when it is not raining. Foghorn

Here is something that will even probably answer your question even better.. I have had 3 sunny days in the past 3 weeks..Yes, count them, only three! It has been raining, drizzling, and been stuck in the 60's a majority of this month, and yet my citrus are NOW as green as can be, and healthy..It is 58 today...July 19 and drizzling.. They are loaded with buds and fruit. NO sun! Just a few weeks ago, I was complaining they were yellowish, and even a lighter green than when I bought them when the sun was out everyday and they were all in FULL sun... Now I have no complaints...lol One of my ponderosa trees was blocked by sun from a rasberry bush that grew about 5 feet tall, loaded with big flowers and very green. A couple of days after sticking it in full sun, the flowers dried up and it turned a lighter green..NOW it is a darker green and loaded with big flowers again with all the clouds and rain.. Now, my grapefruit, that one has a mind of its own. It is most green in full sun and in all this crappy cloudy rainy weather, and in winter under lights..lol I thought I was the only one strange at times, so are my plants!! Here is the kicker, I havn't fed them for about 3 weeks now, and they are as green and as flowery as can be..lol!! Mike..:-)

Beachplant and Barbara, thanks for the info. Knowledge overcomes effort. I guess some might not make it. That is ok, I just want to give them a fighting chance. I am not sure what type they are but their name is Hemerocallis fulva, believe from doing a little reading they are evergreen. The Hybrids are Hemerocallis. roadsde daylillies Hybrids At least I know who can take the sun. It is a killer if you get it wrong. I would not want to be out in it all day. Forsythia and Butterfly bush are so pretty, maybe they will make it. I live back from the water now about 2 1/2 miles. I just went on a buying spree with cheap prices. I have purchase from this wholesaler before and everthing is growing very well. The wind is doing a number on my plants. I hope they adapt. We had a freeze line come within 200 yards of my house. How weird is that. My house was ok but driving to work as I went downhill on my street about 200 yards. There was frost over entire acres of yards. It did not even nip a single plant. Thank you lord. I am getting ready to plant 50 lbs of Bahia Grass for the sheep. I ran irrigation last Sunday and will put sprinkler heads on this weekend. Poor fellers, they are upset I swiped a 100 x 100 area from them. They are pretty smart. They would graze certain areas at certain time of the day and select what they wanted. Kind of like a buffet. They were managing their food source. Another nice acre of Bahia will make them happy. Thanks for the info. I do need all the help I can get. Remember I just startd back into gardening last November. I have gone from no plants to who knows how many. The eater and all of my other exotic/invasive roses received a special place, tree and fence line to grow on. I am growing Fortuniana rose for rootstock. Jim
