Cold nights reduced photo ops, but the cooler July weather was welcome along with rain. Next week we go to the hot extreme for a few days.

Arson makes a fiery clump! Great shot of the fawns! Were they checking out your buffet line? I've alway loved Firestorm, but it was one of my nonbloomers this season. Thanks for the lovely show. My favorites today are Laura Harwood, King of the Ages and Joe the Plumber.

Thanks for the picture of Uncle Bryan. That one is on my "consider" list for late reds, but I had never seen it before. It is quite lovely.

I hope your spotted visitors didn't get much.

We have a farm property that was in a similar situation. Teenagers throwing parties and using it for a "romantic spot". Deer hunters just doing whatever they felt like even trying to put up permanent tree stands in the woods. People fishing out of the pond and weirdos coming out and parking behind the barn out of sight doing god knows what all day. We put carpet tack strips across the drive, huge piles of logs and sticks, etc. It still didn't stop them from driving back. We found out that to most people property rights mean very little. They will do whatever they want if there is not something to put an active stop to it. Our neighbor across the street used to catch them all the time and call us. Sometimes, these people would show up 5 minutes after we left! Who knows where they all came from. Anyway, we finally decided to put a homemade gate across the gravel drive. It was cheap to build and when painted didn't look too bad. Stopped the driving traffic 100%. They still tried to park in the neighboring lot and walk across for hunting, but another family built a house on the other side and he goes out to make a ruckus when he thinks hunters are trying to get out there so it's no use even trying to get a deer. If you can't be out there right away, I wouldn't hesitate to put up a gate. It will help a lot. Especially if it's right on the road where if they stop their car will be visible to everyone driving by.

This is a great thread. I first have to say that I had my husband look at some of this, and I will say upfront that he is totally engaged (he does most of the cooking). But I'm terrible. My family is here and rated me at a 9.5 out of 10 for being a witch the hours before a party. I remember yelling at my daughter because I had just hung up a perfect clean towerl on the hanging ring and went in, they had used it, and wadded it up over the ring. I yelled at them, and still feel bad about it today. Most importantly because I don't want them to think that entertaining is awful and never have a dinner party because they remember it being hell day. I grew up with my mother keeping a horrendous house. It was a mess, and I mean a mess. Counters piled with crap, dishes not done for days, and she didn't care. She was always having friends stop by. Even as a young child, it embarassed me to all heck. I can still remember coming home from babysitting at midnight or so when I was 12 or 13 years old (I started young), and I would clean the kitchen from top to bottom. It would take a couple of hours. I was different than her even back then. When my dad remarried, it was Martha Stewart land. She had to have it spotless. Every Saturday was crack and corner day. We quite literally had to pull the couch out and vacuum under it at least every other week, and we had to bleach the counters. Crazy the other way! So, I can't seem to have anyone over unless my house is totally cleaned! And our parties themselves are quite memorable to everyone who comes. They talk about it afterward for weeks. I do enjoy having wonderful parties but I also wish I could relax about my house. I know its wrapped up in my childhood psyche. I will even make sure the main counters are clean as guests are arriving for a dinner party. And that's while we're using the kitchen! But I'm also so proud of our kitchen and want to show it off. Now one time, we had a Chinese extravaganze where we covered our desk with Chinese ingredients, friends came over at noon and didn't leave until midnight. The men mostly cooked and it was a blast. Every inch of every counter was covered with crap. I remember walking in the kitchen, the dust was flying from someone rolling out potstickers while someone else was frying a whole fish over the wok burner, and someone else was mixing something up. I didn't care what the kitchen looked like that day. I'll never forget that party. I don't know if I'll ever change about the clean house though. It's so engrained in me. Well, my husband is making London Broil so I'm off to the kitchen!! Great stories though. I think we have more in common than we realized.

dreamywhite - I wish it were the case that the house was worth 250k! I recently moved to Madison, WI (hence the need to sell) and since we were staying in the midwest, and not moving to the largest city in the state I was expecting to see somewhat similar price, but was SHOCKED to see houses just like mine in Indianapolis selling above 200k. We decided that we wanted an older home (but not too old), and found a lovely home that was probably once a "starter" type of home 20 years ago, that would easily be $150,000 less in Indianapolis in a similar neighborhood. Indianapolis is given the nickname 'naptown' because it's quiet, a bit boring, and vanilla, but what it lacks in energy it makes up in being SUPER inexpensive. That's why my husband and I were able to purchase something straight out of college! We've decided to lower the price to just below $145. I did learn that there are about 6 homes that were on the market in my neighborhood for quite a while recently went pending which is great news - less competition for me. So hopefully this price change does the trick. When I think about the house from the perspective of the buyers I think 145,000 feels "right". Thanks for the feedback!

Repainting recently painted cabinets

Wow, not cleaning them was not good. These are the things that make me glad we do so much of our projects ourselves, hard to find contractors who will take the time to do the job right. I would have scrubbed the cabinets well, rinsed them, and maybe even wiped them down with denatured alcohol to remove all traces of kitchen grease and dust. Then, scuff sand all of them and vacuum or at least wipe the dust off. Only then would I begin painting. Just painted our bathroom cabinets and I did the same prep - clean and sand before primer. Time will tell if your paint job adheres well, but the above poster is right, if that base coat is not properly adhered, subsequent coats won't help much. I am not a believer in oil based paint for cabinets anyway. I do love how an oil paint goes on and levels so beautifully. But the VOC's make me sick and, as I understand it, the finish on oil paints can "crack" as it is a very hard surface and as the wood expands and contracts, this causes cracking. Also, white oil paints can often yellow over time. I used Cabinet Coat per GW recommendations, it goes on smoothly and does level out well. A very hard finish when fully cured. This is the paint I would use for any cabinets and trim I have.

Ah yes, Joe the Plumber. Brings back memories. A nice daylily too. I don't know what that pink is but it's a pretty one. I think it takes a different eye then mine to appreciate the colors on Sinister Minister, but The Old Firestorm colors are right up my alley. Uncle Bryan is attractive too. So glad we don't have deer around here. It would be so hard on my heart to have to think bad thoughts about Bambi........Maryl

Gorgeous daylilies! It still amazes me how all of you wonderful collectors keep everything orgnized. Its got to be a huge task.

The fawns look so cute, but I know all about the damage they can do. My favorite of your pics is King Of Ages, and I also really like Jelly Roll Morton. Your HOH's color looks much nicer than mine, very pretty.

You know my favorites are going to be the Hansons, and I really like Joe the Plumber. Great photo of the Bambi twins. I haven't had deer around for a few years, so I can appreciate them now that they're in your garden and not mine.

I was wondering how HEARTBEAT OF HEAVEN would do in zone 6. Many buds? Openings?

I like BIG KISS. Very soft looking.

Bambi's here also and they run around the back field like dogs with Mama deer watching and then running around with them. Doesn't your dog chase the deer?

The deer have been bothering a friend's garden; these were across the street from her place. Fawns are the worst. They eat voraciously and do not have the fear of older deer. In this picture, the doe had run off when I approached, but the fawns kept eating. A few years ago, they got under the mesh fence that I have.

Heartbeat of Heaven is untested here, Julia. A newbie that is hardy, but that's all I can say. Big Kiss grows like a weed. Otherwise, people would gladly pay a lot for it.

Uncle Bryan is a very bright red out of Big Apple. Unfortunately, it has some of the foliage problems of Big Apple.

My favorites are Uncle Bryan and Julianna Lynn. Those ENE are so pretty Lovely pic of a double! Indy Floppy Mama is pretty, love bicolors.
The light pink is pretty, hopefully you'll find its name.
Oh deer.. They ate every scape in my SIL's garden so sad.

I think the pink may be Pink Rocks. It looks like a Carpenter. The pics of Pink Rocks I find are rather variable.

Arson is an eye-catching clump! You have several really nice ones waiting for spaces. Sinister Minister has survived being in increasing shade and is due a move this year. I don't have but love Julie's Jelly Roll Morton it makes a very showy clump. King of the Ages looks good and I like that bloom of Joe the Plumber.
