Shade Tree suggestions

Tricia

I've decided I like shade gardening better than sun - or maybe I've finally come to terms with the notion that the southern sun is just too much for me. I am looking for suggestions for shade trees for my front yard.

Currently the only trees of any size I have are a sweet gum and a choke cherry tree, both are as tall as the house. About every other year the cherry tree almost completely defoliates due to some sort of fungus. So although it is large, if it doesn't keep its leaves its not doing its job and may need to go. I also have a teddy bear magnolia that is about 12-14 feet high, seems to be doing fine although in its three years its never bloomed.

Any suggestions for interesting trees to add more shade to my front yard?
